| Form 990 Part III | Our first home In 2010, we acquired our first home in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur, in a joint venture with the Community of Hospitality. This partnership includes the entrustring of COHs Oakhurst home for 10 years for the cost of property taxes, insurance, and maintenance to LArche. This will be the first LArche home in Atlanta. LArche will assume the renovation costs in order for the home to be licensed as a Community Living Arrangement with the State of GA. This is a capital project of 160,000. In 2010, we began raising money for this project, and by December 2010 65,000 has been invested in the project. We plan to begin renovation in May 2011. The Community of Hospitality, founded in 1982 as an intentional, faith-based community committed to service and worship, has used its Oakhurst home as a place of welcome for homeless people and for volunteers. | |
| Form 990 Part III | COH has established Cafe 458. In joining with LArche, COH has enabled us to launch our first home in a wonderful, walkable neighborhood, and to do this in a manner that is manageable for us in this early stage of building our base of financial support. This joint venture also provides us with experienced and committed partners, deeply rooted in the local community, who know how to start and manage non-profits as well as to build mission and impact within that non-profit. Day Programs - building a farm project in partnership with Camp Twin Lakes - We participated in a Farm Charette with Camp Twin Lakes in the Fall of 2010, as our two organizations envision a partnership on a farm project in Rutledge for people of all abilities. | |
| Form 990 Part III | The Camp is developing an organic farm on its Rutledge site to serve the camp, and would like to include peiople of all abilities in this venture. LArche will work to welcome adults with intellectual disabilities into the farm project, which will offer meaningful work options such as working on the farm, working in a store, helping in food service in the camp, selling and delivering community supported agriculture shares, and working in other enterprises such as canning or sorting and packaging seeds. In January 2010, Friends of LArche Atlanta began partnering with St Barts Episcopal Church to provide monthly community events for people with and without intellectual disabilities. The purpose of the monlthly events is to bring diverse people together to celebrate the unique value of each person, enjoy ourselves, and build relationships of friendship and support. | |
| Form 990 Part III | Part of LArches mission is working to build a more human society. This is done partly through our shared daily life, and the transforming impact genuine relationships have as many friends enter into mutual relationships with adults with disabilities. Part of this work is also done through announcing LArches vision and the things we learn in sharing life with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As this is done, perceptions are changed and others are inspired to similar initiatives, and become more inclusive in their daily lives, their faith communities, and their neighborhoods. |
