THE COALITION IS FORMED AS A NON-PROFIT CORPORATION FOR THE PURPOSES PRIMARILY TO ENCOURAGE AWARENESS OF, DEVELOPMENT OF, AND PUBLIC POLICIES PROMOTING ALTERNATIVE FUEL AND ALTERNATIVE FUEL VEHICLES; AND, FURTHER, IS ORGANIZED AND MAY BE EXPECTED TO CONDUCT ANY OTHER PURPOSE PERMISSIBLE UNDER THE ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION.
FIRST ACHIEVEMENT DESCRIPTION

WITH MORE THAN 1.8 MILLION GALLONS OF GASOLINE EQUIVALENT REDUCED. THIS EFFORT WAS LEAD PRIMARILY BY STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS WITH ASSISTANCE FROM THE COALITION. DURING 2010, ALTERNATIVE FUELS(E85 ETHANOL AND B20 BIODIESEL) CONTINUED TO BE OFFERED ON THE STATE FUEL CONTRACT. IN ADDITION TO BEING AVAILABLE TO STATE AGENCIES, THESE ALTERNATIVE FUELS CAN BE PURCHASED BY LOCAL GOVERNMENTS ON THE STATE CONTRACT FROM APPROVED VENDORS IN ALL 67 COUNTIES IN ALABAMA. USE OF ALTERNATIVE FUELS BY ALABAMA GOVERNMENT AGENCIES CONTINUED TO EXPAND IN 2010: THE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM USED MORE 140,000 GALLONS OF B20 BIODIESEL; THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION CONTINUED FUELING WITH B20 BIODIESEL IN ALL OF THEIR DIVISIONS AND NOW HAS E85 ETHANOL IN SEVEN OF THEIR NINE DIVISIONS; THE ALABAMA STATE MOTOR POOL CONTINUED TO DISPENSE E85 ETHANOL IN IT'S FLEET OF FFV'S; THE CITY OF HOOVER DISPENSED MORE THAN 150,000 GALLONS OF E85 ETHANOL IN THEIR FLEET AND NOW HAS OVER 87% OF THEIR FLEET USING ALTERNATIVE FUELS; THE BIRMINGHAM-JEFFERSON COUNTY TRANSIT AUTHORITY (BJCTA)DISPLACED MORE THAN 661,000 GALLONS OF FOREIGN OIL USING CNG IN THEIR FLEET; THE COALITION DEVELOPED PUBLIC ACCESS CNG STATION AT THE BJCTA FACILITY DISPENSED ALMOST 26,000 GGE'S OF CNG TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC; AND WASTE OIL TO BIODIESEL INITIATIVES STARTED IN THE CITY OF ENTERPRISE. SIMILAR PROGRAMS CONTINUED AT AUBURN UNIVERSITY; IN CALHOUN AND HENRY COUNTIES; AND IN THE CITIES OF ANDALUSIA, HOOVER, MONTGOMERY, GADSDEN, AND DAPHNE. THE COALITION CONTINUED ITS DEVELOPMENT OF A MULTI-STATE(ALABAMA, TENNESSEE,KENTUCKY & INDIANA) ALTERNATIVE FUEL PROJECT UNDER A GRANT FROM THE U.S.DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY, A PORTION OF WHICH, HAS BEEN RECEIVED BY THE COALITION, TO CREATE THE NATIONS FIRST BIOFUELS CLEAN CORRIDOR OF RETAIL E85 ETHANOL & B20 BIODIESEL FUELING STATIONS ALONG INTERSTATE 65. STATIONS ALONG THE CORRIDOR IN ALABAMA HAVE DISPENSED MORE THAN 1.6 MILLION GALLONS OF E85 AND B20 BIODIESEL TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THE COALITION PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES HAVE LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR ADDITIONAL ALTERNATIVE FUEL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS THAT WILL INCREASE THE AVAILABILITY OF CLEANER BURNING FUELS TO THE PUBLIC IN ALABAMA DURING CALENDAR 2010 AND BEYOND. INCREASING AVAILABILITY OF THESE FUELS WILL IMPROVE AIR QUALITY AS MORE THAN 175,000 FLEXIBLE FUEL VEHICLES(FFV'S) ARE REGISTERED IN ALABAMA. IN ADDITION, OTHER POTENTIAL PROJECTS WERE IDENTIFIED FOR FUTURE FUNDING AND/OR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. THE COALITION PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES SERVE TO LESSEN THE BURDENS OF GOVERNMENT. THESE COALITION ACTIVITIES ALSO FURTHER A CHARITABLE PURPOSE BY IMPROVING THE ENVIRONMENT, WHICH PROMOTES SOCIAL WELFARE. EDUCATION:DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION- DURING 2009, THE COALITION CONDUCTED THREE BIODIESEL WORKSHOPS, THREE BIODIESEL WEBINARS, THREE COMPREHENSIVE ALTERNATIVE FUEL WORKSHOPS, A PLUG-IN ELECTRIC VEHICLE WORKSHOP, AND OTHER ALTERNATIVE FUEL TRAINING EVENTS AND MEETINGS TO EDUCATE PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC ABOUT THE BENEFITS ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF ALTERNATIVE FUELS. OTHER OUTREACH AND EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS DURING 2009 INCLUDED NINE PRESENTATIONS ON ALTERNATIVE FUELS TO VARIOUS CIVIC AND PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE STATE AND RESPONDING TO NUMEROUS MEDIA AND CONSUMER INQUIRES ON ALTERNATIVE FUELS. THE COALITION OPERATES A HOTLINE THROUGH ITS WEBSITE TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THE BENEFITS OF AFV'S AND ALTERNATIVE FUELS. DURING 2010,THE COALITION RESPONDED TO NUMEROUS REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION. EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL REQUESTS ARE FROM INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN CLEAN FUEL/AFV INFORMATION AND CLEAN FUEL STATION LOCATIONS AND REQUESTS FROM TEACHERS FOR CURRICULUM RELATED INFORMATION ON AFV'S AND AIR QUALITY. THE COALITION ALSO HELPED TO GENERATE NEWSPAPER STORIES ACROSS THE STATE ON ALTERNATIVE FUEL PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES. THESE COALITION ACTIVITIES FURTHER AN EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE BY DISSEMINATING INFORMATION REGARDING RISKS POSED BY AIR POLLUTION AS WELL AS INFORMATION CONCERNING CLEAN FUEL ALTERNATIVES TO FOSSIL-BURNING VEHICLES.
