Description of Uncertain Tax Positions Under FIN 48:	Part X:	FIN 48 FOOT NOTE The National Association of Spine Specialists is an organization described in Sections 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code and was granted exemption from federal income taxes by the Internal Revenue Service. The tax exempt purpose of the Organization and the nature in which it operate are described in Note 1 (page 2 of 990). Management's assertion is that there are no uncertain tax positions and the Organizations continue to operate in compliance with their tax-exempt purposes. The National Association of Spine Specialists performs certain lobbying activities. Expenditures for lobbying activities are subject to a 35% proxy tax unless membership dues and assessments clearly identify the estimated portion of non-deductible membership dues which represent lobbying expense. The Association did incur a proxy tax of $52,903 in 2010 for 2009 lobbying expenses. For 2010, the Association estimated and identified to its members the portion of its dues relating to non-deductible lobbying expenses. As such, no provision for proxy tax has been made for 2010. The Organization's annual informational and income tax returns filed with the federal and state governments are subject to examination for the statutory period.
