OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO THOSE FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS IN GREATEST NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY TO INSURE THEIR DAY-TO-DAY SURVIVAL, HELP THEM BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT AND PROVIDE A WIDE RANGE OF SERVICES TO FILL A "GAP" WHICH WOULD OTHERWISE EXIST. THIS INCLUDES PROGRAMS SPECIFICALLY TAILORED FOR HEADS OF HOUSEHOLDS (TO HELP TO PROVIDE FOR THE NEEDS OF THEIR FAMILIES), CONSTRUCTIVE RECREATION AND MENTORING PROGRAMS FOR YOUTHS (TO REDIRECT THEIR ENERGIES, INSPIRE AND EDUCATE THEM) AS WELL AS PROGRAMS TO PROVIDE FOR THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN. THE ASSOCIATION ALSO PROVIDES NEEDS-CHALLENGED INDIVIDUALS WITH INFORMATION ABOUT OTHER COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND ACTIVITIES.

THE COMPETITION. DURING OUR INAUGURAL SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET IN 2006 WE WERE ABLE TO AWARD FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS THANKS TO INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING AND LOCAL BUSINESS LEADERS. AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING: WE'RE RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS TO UTILIZE COMPUTER-BASED PROGRAMS IN OUR COMPUTER LAB TO PROVIDE AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING, BASIC OFFICE SOFTWARE ORIENTATION AND OTHER COMPUTER-RELATED SKILLS. BACK-TO-SCHOOL: WE PROVIDE ORIENTATION AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES JUST BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS. ADOPT-A-YOUTH: WE RECRUIT LOCAL EMPLOYERS TO HIRE AND MENTOR YOUTH DURING THEIR SUMMER VACATION. FIELD TRIPS: WE TAKE CHILDREN FROM ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES ON ONE-DAY FIELD TRIPS TO ENTERTAIN THEM AND REDIRECT THEIR ENERGIES DURING THEIR SUMMER VACATIONS. SUMMER CAMP: WHEN FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE, WE TAKE A LIMITED NUMBER OF CHILDREN FROM ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES TO CAMP FOR ONE WEEK. ANNUAL COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS PARTIES: WE DISTRIBUTE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS TO APPROXIMATELY 2,500 CHILDREN AND YOUTHS FROM ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES EVERY YEAR.
