| Form 990 Part I | 1 | The mission of the Alamo Colleges Foundation is to develop resources to strengthen the districts capacity to empower for success the diverse communities served by its five colleges. The Foundation seeks to inspire passion for education and active community involvement to build a better future. Investments in the Foundation advance scholarships, program support, endowment, and additional education priorities. We have awarded scholarships totaling more than 10 million, plus more than 2 million to strengthen the programs and services provided by the district. |
| Form 990 Part I | 1 | Case for Support Bexar County and the surrounding areas can count on the Alamo Colleges. For decades, the colleges have met the evolving needs of our students and our world. The 5 colleges - St. Philips est. 1898, San Antonio 1925, Palo Alto 1985, Northwest Vista 1995, and Northeast Lakeview 2007 - offer associate degrees in academic programs, certificates and licensures in occupational programs that prepare students for jobs, and courses that transfer to four-year colleges and universities and lead to bachelors degrees. Today, the Alamo Colleges Foundation is focused on building on the Colleges strengths to make students and the Colleges better prepared for the future and a knowledge-driven workplace. |
| Form 990 Part I | 1 | This is a time of profound challenge and opportunity. Our challenges reach the very heart of our community. Enrollment is rising - 18 since 2008. And yet, 57 of the population of San Antonio over the age of 25 lacks a bachelors degree, associates degree, or some college. About 23 of adults over the age of 25 lack a high school diploma. Regional employers are eliminating many low- and medium-skill jobs, while experiencing shortages in qualified workers in new high-tech fields. Employers consistently cite educational attainment and technical skill as key workforce challenges. All state agencies are facing unprecedented fiscal cuts. As a result, the Alamo Colleges will lose approximately 15 million in state aid this fiscal year. Additionally, Alamo Colleges have been directed to cut 10 in each of the next 2 years - legislators indicate greater cuts. |
| Form 990 Part I | 1 | If the number of students served by the Alamo Colleges can be used as an indicator of the role of the community college system in the growth and future of the San Antonio region, our role is much larger than most can imagine. Private support is essential for us to continue as the 1 regional educational services provider. Our goal is powerful and practical to empower the Colleges to provide the education that is necessary for the success of our citizens and our communities. We must increase access to an Alamo Colleges education by funding new scholarships and other financial help and grow the endowment. We must enhance the academic experience and workforce skills training. The Foundation will ensure that our faculty has the needed base of resources for excellence. We must engage our community by building partnerships and encouraging philanthropic support. |
| Form 990 Part I | 1 | The Alamo Colleges serve over 100,000 annual credit and non-credit students, more than all the other higher education institutions in Bexar County combined. The Alamo Colleges have built a strong, shared legacy indicated by a student persistence rate 4 percent higher than state average, b course completion rate of 86.5, c access to education through regional centers in Kerrville, Floresville and New Braunfels, d first in Texas in number of hours taught over the internet, and f one of only 7 community colleges designated as a 2010 Leader College in the US by Achieving the Dream Community Colleges Count. |
