    1 THE COMMUNICATIONS INSTITUTE During 2010 the Foundation completed its first venture into Public Policy. This four year undertaking was expressly designed to bring a non-partisan and economic perspective to issues that are often perplexing, divisive, difficult, confusing, or clouded by inadequate or asymmetrical statistical resources. The project generated a series of public forums, invitational seminars, studies, reports, and bi-partisan conferences with Arizona state legislators and other state, county, and city representatives. Topics addressed included: Immigration and Economics and Governing Arizona: Perspectives for the Future, an Economic Public Policy Assessment. The information obtained in preparing for these programs continues to provide beneficial research data. 289,223
    2 OFFICE OF ECONOMIC EDUCATIONThe Thomas R Brown Foundation works with the Office of Economic Education at the University of Arizona to provide outreach programming including classes to help to meet the needs of providing the state with qualified K-12 economics teachers. Teachers are offered credit through microeconomic and macroeconomic workshops taught by award-winning professors and classroom teachers. Program oversight is provided by Cathleen Johnson, Ph.D., director of the Office of Economic Education, at the Norton School, at the University of Arizona.     3 THE THOMAS R BROWN PROFESSORSHIP IN ECONOMICSThe Thomas R Brown Professorship in Economics at the University of Arizona (UA) is a five year commitment designed to support and strengthen the Foundation's other educational programs in the local, regional, state, and national arenas. The Foundation accomplishes this directly with the UA by helping the UA to retain the staff necessary to continue to fulfill the needs of the economics department, which supports the needs of the Foundation. The Professorship is currently occupied by Price Fishback, Ph.D. a world-renowned professor, author and researcher. 159,000
    4 JOINT PROGRAMS WITH THE ARIZONA COUNCIL ON ECONOMIC EDUCATION During 2010 the Foundation continued to sponsor or co-sponsor Economics in Education. This Program is focused on serving the Southern Arizona region with the goal of increasing teacher and student exposure to fundamental principles of economics and to help them develop an appreciation of how economic analysis applies to everyday choices as well as business and public policy issues.
