What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The organization's primary exempt purpose is to provide free or affordable legal services to families and individuals who do not qualify for legal aid programs but who can not afford to hire a private attorney and who meet specified income eligibility requirements. - The Church Hill Office located in Richmond, Virginia, provides, for a $50 legal fee, legal representation for uncontested divorces and other family law matters, housing or landlord-tenant problems, real estate sales, and guardianship proceedings to low-income residents of the City of Richmond. This office also provides free counseling for family law, housing, and guardianship matters without limitation to place of residence. - The Pro Bono Partnership with the University of Virginia School of Law is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, and for area residents provides free legal representation to victims of domestic violence and to a limited number of immigration clients seeking asylum.

28 The primary activity of the organization is providing free or low-cost legal services to low-income individuals in the Virginia cities of Richmond and Charlottesville and certain counties surrounding Charlottesville, who can not afford to hire a lawyer. In Richmond's Church Hill Pro Bono Office, 80 lawyers devoted over 1,600 hours to representing more than 290 clients with family law, housing law, and guardianship needs.

Form 990-EZ, Part I Statement Concerning to Additional Non-Cash Contributions ** Hunton & Williams LLP volunteer attorneys provided over 3,460 hours of legal services to low-income clients in furtherance of the charitable goals of the organization. In addition, Hunton & Williams LLP provided over 1,000 hours of administrative services to the organization without charge through the efforts of attorneys George H. Hettrick, President and Treasurer, and Joseph C. Kearfott, Secretary, and finance director John H. Wilson, Assistant Treasurer. ** Hunton & Williams LLP employed a full time Pro Bono Fellow in the Church Hill Office and an Associate Attorney in the Charlottesville Office to work exclusively for the organization's charitable purposes. The value of the two positions is determined by the costs of the employees' salary and benefits to the firm as follows: - $26,404.87; value of the Pro Bono Fellow in the Church Hill Office. - $57,115.64, including severance pay of $23,602.59; value of the Associate Attorney in the Charlottesville Office employed for the first part of the organization's tax year. - $29,943.24; value of the Associate Attorney in the Charlottesville Office employed for the remainder of the tax year. ** For each office, Hunton & Williams LLP also employed a receptionist/office manager in the position of Senior Legal Administrative Coordinator.
