RESULTS:? DURING THE LAST 6 MONTHS OF 2010, UNITED WAY HELPED 535 UNEMPLOYED AND UNDER-EMPLOYED CENTRAL OHIOANS GET A JOB. 31% OF THESE JOBS OFFERED HEALTH INSURANCE AS A BENEFIT OF EMPLOYMENT.PEOPLE IN CRISIS HAVE ACCESS TO EMERGENCY FOOD, SHELTER AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCECONDITIONS: IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, ABOUT 1,700 OF THE 7,400 PEOPLE SERVED BY EMERGENCY SHELTER SYSTEM LAST YEAR WERE CHILDREN. RESULTS: IN 2010, UNITED WAY'S SUPPORT FOR HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION EFFORTS LIKE THE FAMILY STABILITY COLLABORATIVE ALLOWED 329 FAMILIES, OR 26% OF THE TOTAL NUMBER OF FAMILIES TO CONTACT THE YWCA FAMILY CENTER, TO AVOID THE TRAUMA OF A NIGHT WITHOUT SHELTER.PEOPLE OVERCOME BARRIERS TO ACCESSING HEALTH AND WELLNESS SERVICESCONDITIONS: ? NEARLY 80,000 (11%) ADULTS IN FRANKLIN COUNTY ARE WITHOUT A REGULAR SOURCE OF CARE SUCH AS A MEDICAL OFFICE OR A CLINICRESULTS: IN 2010, WE HELPED OVER 25,000 INDIVIDUALS GET ASSISTANCE IN ADDRESSING BARRIERS THEY EXPERIENCED IN ACCESSING HEALTH CARE. OUR RESOURCES ALSO PROVIDED NEARLY 40,000 TRIPS TO HEALTH CARE SERVICES AND MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS. PEOPLE MAINTAIN HEALTHY NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL FITNESSCONDITIONS: OVER 245,00 (29%) FRANKLIN COUNTY ADULTS AND MORE THAN 25,000 (22% ) CHILDREN ARE CONSIDERED OBESERESULTS: IN 2010, WE HELPED MORE THAN 11,500 INDIVIDUALS TO BE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE AND EAT HEALTHY. AS PART OF THIS WORK, WE HELPED OVER 2,000 YOUTH AND ADULTS MAINTAIN A RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ON A REGULAR BASIS.THE COMMUNITY IS PREPARED TO RESPOND TO DISASTERS AND EMERGENCIES IN A COORDINATED AND COMPREHENSIVE WAYCONDITIONS: ONLY ROUGHLY 185,000 (16%) INDIVIDUALS IN FRANKLIN COUNTY ARE PREPARED OR TRAINED TO RESPOND TO AN INDIVIDUAL EMERGENCY OR COMMUNITY DISASTER RESULTS: IN 2010, WE HELPED PREPARE OVER 9,000 INDIVIDUALS TO RESPOND IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY OR DISASTER THROUGH INSTRUCTION IN CPR, FIRST AID, AED, AND OTHER LIFE SAVING SKILLS TRAINING. PEOPLE LIVE IN SAFE NEIGHBORHOODSCONDITIONS: THE FRANKLIN COUNTY JUVENILE COURT REPORTED 10.297 DELINQUENT AND UNRULY YOUTH IN 2000, AND 11,759 IN 2008, AND INCREASE OF 14.2% DURING THIS PERIOD. RESULTS: 83% OF YOUTH INVOLVED IN TRANSIT ARTS AT CENTRAL COMMUNITY HOUSE, A UNITED WAY MEMBER AGENCY, DID NOT ENGAGE IN UNRULY OR DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR FOR ONE YEAR FOLLOWING COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAM. THIS IS MEASURED BY COMPARING THE CLIENT DATABASE TO DAILY JUVENILE COURT DOCKETS. PEOPLE LIVE IN SAFE AND DECENT HOUSINGCONDITIONS: ACCORDING TO THE 2010 CENSUS, THERE ARE 527,186 HOUSING UNITS IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, OF WHICH 49,951 (9.5%) ARE VACANT. IN THE CITY OF COLUMBUS, THERE ARE 363,756 HOUSING UNITS, OF WHICH 38,885 (10.7%) ARE VACANT. RESULTS:? UNITED WAY'S INVESTMENT IN THE HEALTHY NEIGHBORS HEALTHY FAMILIES COLLABORATIVE, THROUGH OUR MEMBER AGENCY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOR ALL PEOPLE, IS CREATING SAFE, QUALITY AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING ON COLUMBUS' NEAR SOUTH SIDE. IN 2010, UNITED WAY'S INVESTMENT SUPPORTED THE ACQUISITION, REHABILITATION OR REPAIR OF 26 PROPERTIES IN THE AREA.

THE MISSION OF START SMART IS TO INCREASE CHILDRENS READINESS FOR KINDERGARTEN AND SUCCESS IN LIFE.START SMART ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR THE YEAR INCLUDE: SUCCESSFULLY RECRUITING 20 NEW EARLY CARE AND LEARNING PROGRAMS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THEIR PROGRAMS AND 10 PROGRAMS RECEIVING IMPROVED QUALITY RATINGS. CLOSE TO 5,000 SETS OF MATERIALS DISTRIBUTED IN THE COMMUNITY PARTNERING WITH COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMS THAT WORK WITH AT RISK PARENTS TO INCLUDE THE FATHER TO FATHER PROGRAM, RECENTLY INCARCERATED MOTHERS AND SINGLE PARENTING TEENS ADVOCATING FOR EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION PUBLIC POLICY.NEIGHBORHOOD PARTNERSHIP CENTER: THE NEIGHBORHOOD PARTNERSHIP CENTER (NPC) WAS ESTABLISHED TO ADDRESS CRITICAL NEEDS IN NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT FOR INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS SERVING GRASS ROOTS, CIVIC, FAITH-BASED AND SMALL NON-PROFITS. THE GOAL OF THE NPC IS TO PROVIDE CURRENT AND INNOVATIVE TRAINING IN LEADERSHIP, ORGANIZATIONAL AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. THE NPC ALSO OFFERS GRANTS TO THESE ORGANIZATIONS IN SUPPORT OF RESIDENT-DRIVEN, NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS. GRANTS RANGE FROM $1,000 TO $10,000. IN 2011, 57 GRANTS WERE AWARDED AT AN AVERAGE OF $3,842 PER GRANT.EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT (EITC) COLLABORATIVE: THE FRANKLIN COUNTY EITC COALITION, LED BY UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL OHIO, IS A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP OF NEARLY 30 CENTRAL OHIO ORGANIZATIONS. THE COALITION'S MISSION IS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF ELIGIBLE HOUSEHOLDS WHO UTILIZE THE COMMUNITY'S FREE TAX PREPARATION SERVICES AND CLAIM THE TAX CREDITS OR REFUNDS FOR WHICH THEY ARE ELIGIBLE. FOR TAX YEAR 2010, THE COLLABORATIVE WORKED TO PREPARE AND FILE 3,692 RETURNS, HELPING TAXPAYERS CLAIM FEDERAL AND STATE REFUNDS OF MORE THAN $4.6 MILLION. THE ESTIMATED SAVINGS FOR THESE TAXPAYERS ON FEES THEY WOULD HAVE PAID FOR RETURN PREPARATION OR RAPID REFUND LOANS WAS MORE THAN $923,000. PROJECT DIVERSITY: PROJECT DIVERSITY IS AN ANNUAL PROGRAM DESIGNED TO DEVELOP LEADERS WITHIN MINORITY COMMUNITIES FOR SERVICE ON NON-PROFIT BOARDS IN CENTRAL OHIO. SINCE 2008 OVER 70% OF THE GRADUATES HAVE SERVED ON A NOT-FOR-PROFIT BOARD (39 OUT OF 51).PRIDE LEADERSHIP: PRIDE LEADERSHIP IS AN ANNUAL PROGRAM DESIGNED TO DEVELOP LEADERS WITHIN THE LGGLBT COMMUNITY FOR SERVICE ON NON-PROFIT BOARDS IN CENTRAL OHIO. SINCE 2008 OVER 70% OF THE GRADUATES HAVE SERVED ON A NOT-FOR-PROFIT BOARD (29 OUT OF 41).UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL OHIOS 19TH ANNUAL COMMUNITY CARE DAY MOBILIZED NEARLY 3,200 VOLUNTEERS FROM MORE THAN 150 LOCAL COMPANIES AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES TO ACCOMPLISH 180 PROJECTS AT LOCAL NONPROFIT AGENCIES AND SCHOOLS. COMMUNITY CARE DAY IS THE LARGEST SINGLE VOLUNTEERING EVENT IN CENTRAL OHIO.

UNITED WAY RECOGNIZES THAT NON-PROFIT AGENCIES NEED TO BE WELL-MANAGED AND EFFECTIVELY GOVERNED IN ORDER TO APPROPRIATELY RESPOND TO CRITICAL COMMUNITY NEEDS AND TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN CENTRAL OHIO. MEMBER AGENCIES RECEIVING PROGRAM FUNDING FROM UNITED WAY UNDERGO INTENSIVE STAFF AND VOLUNTEER PRE-SCREENING BEFORE BEING AWARDED FUNDING. UWCO'S PUBLIC POLICY DIRECTOR IS REGISTERED WITH THE OHIO OFFICE OF THE LEGISLATIVE INSPECTOR GENERAL (JOINT LEGISLATIVE ETHICS COMMITTEE). THE PUBLIC POLICY DIRECTOR REPRESENTS UWCO ON SEVERAL COALITIONS THAT EDUCATE LEGISLATORS ABOUT KEY POLICY ISSUES. COALITIONS INCLUDE ADVOCATES FOR OHIO'S FUTURE, OHIO AFTERSCHOOL NETWORK, PIONEERING HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES IN OHIO, GROUNDWORK, OHIO WORKFORCE COALITION, OHIO PARTNERSHIP TO BUILD STRONGER FAMILIES, AND VOICES FOR OHIO'S CHILDREN. UWCO PROVIDED FISCAL SUPPORT TO ADVOCATES FOR OHIO'S FUTURE, A NONPARTISAN COALITION THAT ADVOCATES FOR ADEQUATE PUBLIC FUNDING FOR HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES. UWCO HOSTED A LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST IN FEBRUARY 2011 TO WELCOME NEWLY ELECTED PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND INTRODUCE FRANKLIN COUNTY LEGISLATORS TO UWCO'S 2011-2012 PUBLIC POLICY AGENDA. UWCO ALSO CO-SPONSORED A CANDIDATES FORUM IN SEPTEMBER 2010. UWCO STAFF PARTICIPATED IN PRESS CONFERENCES THAT ADDRESSED PUBLIC POLICES RELATED TO CHILDHOOD OBESITY, EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION, AND THE EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT.
  SCHEDULE L - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL OHIO (UWCO) MAINTAINS CHECKING AND SAVINGS ACCOUNTS AT MULTIPLE BANKS IN THE CENTRAL OHIO AREA. FOUR TRUSTEES OF THE UWCO BOARD ARE SENIOR EXECUTIVES AT FOUR SEPARATE BANKS WITH WHICH UWCO HAS SUCH BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS. IN SEPTEMBER 2008, THE FIRM OF MURPHYEPSON WAS SELECTED THROUGH A COMPETITIVE BIDDING PROCESS TO SERVE AS THE MARKETING CONSULTANT FOR COLUMBUS KIDS, READY, SET LEARN!. COLUMBUS KIDS IS AN EARLY LEARNING INITIATIVE MANAGED BY UWCO ON BEHALF OF THE COLUMBUS SCHOOLS EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND OTHER FUNDING PARTNERS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED MARCH 31, 2011, PAYMENTS TO MURPHYEPSON TOTALED $5,815. IN MARCH OF 2009, KATHLEEN MURPHY, THE PRINCIPAL OF MURPHYEPSON, WAS ELECTED TO THE UWCO BOARD OF TRUSTEES. IN ACCEPTING ELECTION TO THE BOARD, MS. MURPHY AGREED TO REFRAIN FROM VOTING ON ANY ISSUES RELATED TO COLUMBUS KIDS THAT MIGHT COME BEFORE THE BOARD AND TO FORGO ANY FUTURE NEW BUSINESS WITH UNITED WAY DURING HER TENURE AS A BOARD MEMBER. AS PART OF THE ORGANIZATION'S CODE OF REGULATIONS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS FROM TWO MEMBER AGENCIES ARE REPRESENTATIVES ON THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES. THESE AGENCIES RECEIVE PROGRAM FUNDING ALLOCATIONS, BUT THESE TRUSTEES DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN DECISION MAKING RELATED TO THEIR OWN AGENCY FUNDING. UNITED WAY'S CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY REQUIRES BOARD MEMBERS TO ABSTAIN FROM VOTING ON OR SUPPORTING ANY ISSUES WHICH MAY HAVE A DIRECT IMPACT ON OR BE RELATED TO THEIR BUSINESS. THE SISTER OF THE UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL OHIO'S PRESIDENT & CEO WAS NAMED THE CFO OF ONE OF UWCO'S MEMBER AGENCIES DURING TAX YEAR 2008. THE UWCO CEO HAS NO DIRECT INVOLVEMENT IN ANY DECISION MAKING RELATED TO THE FUNDING OR ANY OTHER TRANSACTIONS RELATED TO THIS AGENCY.
