Briefly describe the organization’s mission: THE PURPOSE OF THIS ASSOCIATION IS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF ALL IN CENTRAL FLORIDA BY CONNECTING INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES WITH OPPORTUNITIES BASED ON CHRISTIAN VALUES THAT STRENGTHEN SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY.

HEALTHY LIVING PROGRAMS: AT THE Y, WE HAVE A MISSION CENTERED ON BALANCE. WE BRING FAMILIES CLOSER TOGETHER, ENCOURAGE GOOD HEALTH AND FOSTER CONNECTIONS THROUGH FITNESS, SPORTS, FUN AND SHARED INTERESTS. THERE WERE OVER 156,000 YOUTH, ADULT, SENIOR AND TEEN MEMBERS OF THE YMCA OF CENTRAL FLORIDA IN 2010. EACH DAY AN AVERAGE OF OVER 25,000 MEMBERS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE AND OF ALL AGES PARTICIPATE IN YMCA FAMILY, HEALTH, WELL-BEING AND FITNESS, SPORTS AND RECREATION PROGRAMS. AMONG OUR OFFERINGS ARE GROUP EXERCISE, ADULT AND YOUTH SPORTS ACTIVITIES, HEALTH SEMINARS, FAMILY TIME AND SOCIAL OPPORTUNITIES.

WE TEACH THEM TO BE CONFIDENT KIDS TODAY AND CONTRIBUTING AND ENGAGED ADULTS TOMORROW. WE NURTURE THE POTENTIAL OF EVERY CHILD THROUGH OUR CHILD CARE, EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP, SWIM, SPORTS AND PLAY, AND CAMP PROGRAM OFFERINGS. THROUGH THE Y OF CENTRAL FLORIDA ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS, OVER 4,100 KIDS IN 28 ELEMENTARY AND 13 MIDDLE SCHOOL SITES PARTICIPATE IN FUN, POSITIVE, SUPERVISED ACTIVITIES THAT ENCOURAGE KNOWLEDGE, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, GUIDANCE AND REALIZATION OF POTENTIAL. AS A RESULT, THE KIDS HAVE IMPROVED GRADES, ATTENDANCE AND REDUCTIONS IN BEHAVIORAL ISSUES. PARENTS KNOW THAT THEIR CHILDREN ARE BEING CARED FOR IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. THE YMCA TEEN ACHIEVERS PROGRAM PROVIDES AFRICAN-AMERICAN AND HISPANIC YOUTH WITH POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION OPTIONS AND OPPORTUNITIES, LED BY ADULT ACHIEVERS WHOSE COMPANIES HAVE SPONSORED THEM TO BE MENTORS AND PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TO YOUTH.

AQUATICS PROGRAMS: THE YMCA OF CENTRAL FLORIDA IS A LEADER IN AQUATICS AND SWIMMING IN THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE. WE PROVIDE PROGRESSIVE SWIM PROGRAMS, AQUATICS FITNESS PROGRAMS, AND RECREATIONAL SWIM OPPORTUNITIES THAT TEACH PEOPLE TO BE SAFE IN AND AROUND THE WATER. DROWNING IS THE LEADING CAUSE OF ACCIDENTAL DEATH AMONG FLORIDA'S INFANTS AND TODDLERS. AS A RESULT, THE CENTRAL FLORIDA YMCA LAUNCHED, IN 2001, AN INFANT SWIM SURVIVAL PROGRAM CALLED SAFE START. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM OVER 10,000 TODDLERS HAVE LEARNED SWIM SURVIVAL SKILLS. IN 2010, 1,000 KIDS PARTICIPATED IN THE Y'S SAFE START PROGRAM AND 20,300 KIDS AND ADULTS WERE TAUGHT TO SWIM AND BE SAFE IN AND AROUND THE WATER.ADDITIONALLY, THE YMCA CONTINUES TO SUPPORT A SPECIAL OLYMPICS SWIM PROGRAM WITH OVER 60 MENTALLY OR PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED INDIVIDUALS THAT PARTICIPATE REGULARLY IN THE PROGRAM AND ARE TAUGHT 100% BY VOLUNTEERS. OUR POOLS ARE HOME TO FOUR HIGH SCHOOL SWIM AND WATER POLO TEAMS AS WELL AS HOST FOR OVER 30 HIGH SCHOOL SWIM MEETS ON AN ANNUAL BASIS. ADDITIONALLY, THE YMCA HAS SWIM TEAMS THAT SERVE 18 OF OUR COMMUNITIES.

WE OFFER FUN, POSITIVE ACTIVITIES THAT ALLOW YOUNG PEOPLE TO BUILD SELF-ESTEEM, LEARN TO WORK WITH OTHERS AND MAKE LASTING FRIENDSHIPS AND MEMORIES. IN 2010, OVER 21,900 KIDS LEARNED TEAMWORK AND SPORTSMANSHIP, AND OVER 1,000 TEENS PLAYED BASKETBALL IN OUR GYMS. OUR SUMMER AND RESIDENTIAL CAMP PROGRAMS HELPED OVER 53,300 KIDS LEARN POSITIVE CORE VALUES OF CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY AND FAITH, AND DISCOVER WHO THEY ARE. NEARLY ONE IN FOUR OF ALL SUMMER CAMP PARTICIPANTS RECEIVED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: AT THE Y, GIVING BACK AND PROVIDING SUPPORT TO OUR NEIGHBORS IS IMPORTANT. WE LISTEN AND RESPOND TO OUR COMMUNITIES' MOST CRITICAL SOCIAL NEEDS. THROUGH THE Y, 6, 600 DONORS GAVE $2.5 MILLION TO SUPPORT THE Y'S EFFORTS IN IMPROVING THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF CENTRAL FLORIDIANS. MEMBERSHIP AND PROGRAM SUBSIDIES WENT TO 30,000 KIDS, FAMILIES AND SENIORS - OVER $2 MILLION TO SUPPORT FAMILIES WITH CHILD CARE NEEDS, $410,000 TO SEND CHILDREN TO CAMP AND $175,000 FOR YOUTH SPORTS.AND THROUGH THE Y'S PRAYER BREAKFASTS AND COMMUNITY EVENTS, WE BECOME A RESOURCE FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH. THESE EVENTS WELCOMED A DIVERSE GROUP OF OVER 3,000 PEOPLE WHO WERE BROUGHT TOGETHER TO CONNECT AND SHARE COMMON PASSIONS AND PERSONAL INTEREST.
