With 269 new charitable funds in 2010, the LCf now has 3,130 donor and organization advised funds in place, each working to achieve positive and lasting change throughout our community. Collectively, these charitable funds provide millions of dollars to charities serving our local, national and international communities. Following are additional gift and grant highlights from 2010:o A record number of grants - 2,326 - were distributed from donor advised funds, organizational funds and LCF collaborative funds in 2010. Grants in 2010 totaled $10.7 million, bringing the LCF grant total to $73.38 million since the LCF's inception in 1995. The majority of these grants (89%) were distributed from LCF donor advised funds. The ongoing support provided by perpetual donor advised funds affords organizations the opportunity to plan for their futures.o Total giving to the LCF in 2010 greatly exceeded 2009 totals. Outright and deferred gifts totaled $59.3 million in 2010, bringing total gifts to more than $730 million since inception in 1995. These gifts were received from both new and existing donors.o The number of charities recommended to benefit from charitable funds at the LCF grew to more than 5,500 Lutheran and non-Lutheran charities serving our local, national and global community. o The LCF's commitment to long-term investment strategies, rigorous monitoring and rebalancing of assets resulted in a 14.6% annual return as of December 31, 2010, exceeding annual returns of comparable investment portfolios.o The LCF demonstrated sound stewardship in 2010 by operating under budget while maintaining reserves of over 50% of annual expenses and earning its 15th consecutive clean annual audit. o The LCF further developed several of its LCF Collaborative Funds in 2010. The issues addressed by these funds reflect donor interests and are informed by the LCF's relationship with the community. Each gift is joined with other donor gifts to address issues that call for a broader approach and more unified response.Since its founding in 1995, the LCF has built a proven record of sound stewardship. Through careful management of donor gifts, millions of dollars are distributed annually to charities and causes to achieve effective, positive and lasting change throughout our community.

Program initiatives of the LCF Collaborative FundsAs a Lutheran organization, the mission and vision of the Lutheran Community Foundation are driven by a rich and varied history of working to address important societal issues with creativity, passion and purpose. As a Lutheran community foundation, the approach taken with the LCF Collaborative Funds centers on increasing the capacity of others, and the results we pursue are measurable and meaningful. Together with donors, we are catalysts for large-scale social change grounded in Lutheran values. LCF Community Fund: Ending Family Violence Initiative The LCF, in partnership with the ELCA Justice for Women in Church and Society, conducted three Healthy and Safe Congregation Workshops in 2010, as part of its Ending Family Violence Initiative. More than 200 people attended these workshops and returned home to better equip their congregations to respond to victims/survivors, and to be safe places for the most vulnerable.

Together with donors, we are catalysts for large-scale social change grounded in Lutheran values. LCF Community Fund: Creation Care Environmental Initiative This initiative takes a Lutheran approach to building awareness of and lasting change to our relationship with God's creation. Its focus is threefold: 1) Help churches reduce their energy footprint; 2) Promote leadership around creation care among pastors, laity and resident theologians within the Lutheran community; and 3) Engage donors around the concern of creation care and support their individual and collective efforts to make an impact. Thanks to grant support from this initiative, a pilot program to reduce our energy footprint is in place in five churches. Each church is provided with online and print resources, plus coaching, networking and training. Outcomes include positive changes such as an increased emphasis on recycling, installation of an energy-efficient hot water heater, planting a rain garden and a vegetable garden to feed local families in need.

Form 990, Part III, Line 2 Form 990, Part III, Line 2: New Services New Program ServicesThe Lutheran Community Foundation (LCF) advanced its mission through a number of new programs in 2010. Together with donors and experts from partner nonprofit organizations, the LCF is addressing community issues through an approach that centers on increasing the capacity of others. In 2010, the LCF implemented a number of new donor services for its 2,700 donor advised funds. Through TheLCF.org, donors have improved access to privacy-protected online information about their donor advised funds and the investment performance of their gift assets. Donors and interested visitors are also able to view charitable news, research charities, create a customized plan for giving and review grants using an online interactive grants map. The LCF continues to survey its donors to ensure that their giving interests are being served. The LCF also continued the work of its collaborative funds in 2010. Through the LCF Collaborative Funds, the LCF takes the voice of donors into the community to address issues that call for a broader approach and more unified response. Donor gifts allow the LCF to facilitate larger conversations and create strategic responses to issues facing our shared community - donor interests, community assessment and research guide how the community benefits. Gifts of any size are welcome to any of the LCF Collaborative Funds. LCF Community Fund: International Disaster Response InitiativeIn collaboration with Lutheran World Relief (LWR), the 2010 grant from this initiative provided much needed support to people in Darfur, Sudan. The 2010 response focused on the Eastern Equatoria, Twic East and Jonglei State of Sudan, where malnourishment is high while ongoing conflict creates instability as families are vulnerable to becoming displaced. Grant dollars provided much needed food, access to clean water and sanitation.
