THE MISSION OF LAKE COUNTY YMCA IS TO PUT CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT BUILD HEALTHY SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY FOR ALL. NO ONE IS TURNED AWAY BECAUSE OF INABILITY TO PAY. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE BASED ON NEED. ACTIVE AMERICA IS AT THE CORE OF OUR MISSION. IT IS A YMCA INITIATIVE THAT IS REDEFINING THE YMCA EXPERIENCE, BOTH INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY, AS WE SEEK TO ENGAGE HEALTH-SEEKERS AND MOTIVATE POSITIVE CHANGE IN OUR COMMUNITIES PROMOTING HEALTH AND WELL-BEING. WE ARE DEDICATED TO BUILDING STRONG KIDS, STRONG FAMILIES AND STRONG COMMUNITIES. VOLUNTEERS ARE THE BACKBONE OF OUR ORGANIZATION'S MISSION. THE YMCA IS FORTUNATE TO HAVE 1,293 VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE INVOLVED IN POLICY MAKING, PROVIDING PROGRAM LEADERSHIP, HELPING WITH GROUP PROJECTS AND IN SUPPORT ROLES. THEY GIVE OF THEIR TIME AND TALENTS IN SUPPORT OF THE YMCA MISSION TO MAKE THE YMCA EXPERIENCE BETTER FOR ALL WITHOUT EXPANDING THE BUDGET.
FIRST ACHIEVEMENT DESCRIPTION

PARTICIPATED IN AEROBICS, STEP, YOGA, PILATES, SILVER SNEAKERS FITNESS PROGRAM, CYCLE AND CARDIO BOXING. 1,072 YOUTH AND TEENS PARTICIPATED IN TEEN FITNESS AND FITNESS CLASSES. MORE THAN 12,000 ADULTS WERE INVOLVED IN ADULT-SPORTS OPEN RECREATION AND HUNDREDS MORE RECEIVED FITNESS TESTING AND COUNSELING. THOUSANDS MORE OF ALL AGES PARTICIPATED IN A BROAD SPECTRUM OF CLASSES AND ACTIVITIES FROM WEIGHT MANAMGEMENT AND BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION PROGRAMS TO SIMPLY WALKING AND JOGGING, MANY OF THEM DAILY. YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS-YMCA PROGRAMS EMPHASIZE DEVELOPMENTAL SKILLS, HEALTH AND WELL-BEING, SAFETY, COOPERATION, SELF-ESTEEM AND RESPECT FOR OTHERS. ALMOST 8,000 ADULTS AND TEENS PLAYED BASKETBALL WHILE THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN WERE INVOLVED IN LIFE SKILLS INCLUDING SOCCER, ARCHERY, TENNIS, T-BALL, LACROSSE, WRESTLING, SWIMMING, CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING, VOLLEYBALL, RACQUETBALL, GOLF AND GYMNASTICS. PROGRAMMING AT THE YMCA AIMS TO DEVELOP CHARACTER AND IS VALUES-DRIVEN; WE EMPHASIZE HONEST, CARING, RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY. ACTIVATE AMERICA IS AT THE CORE OF OUR MISSION. IT IS A YMCA INITIATIVE THAT IS REDEFINING THE YMCA EXPERIENCE, BOTH INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY, AS WE SEEK TO ENGAGE HEALTH-SEEKERS AND MOTIVATE POSITIVE CHANGE IN OUR COMMUNITIES PROMOTING HEALTH AND WELL-BEING. OFF CAMPS AMOUNTED TO ANOTHER 2,362. ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS-THIS PROGRAM PROMOTES WORKING WITH SENIORS, WITH 3,181 PARTICIPANTS INVOLVED IN HEALTH AND WELL-BEING, SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AND VOLUNTEERISM. YOUTH OUTREACH-1,920 PARTICIPATED IN YOUTH OUTREACH THROUGH YOU GO GIRL PROGRAM, GROCERY CONNECTION, MINORITY ACHIEVERS, AND TEEN NIGHTS AND ANOHTER 314 IN OVERNIGHTERS. TEEN LEADERSHIP-IN YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS, OVER 200 TEENS PARTICIPATED IN LEADERS CLUB, LEADERS TRAINING SCHOOL AND COUNSELORS-IN-TRAINING AT CAMPS. SPECIAL POPULATIONS-THE YMCA OFFERS A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS AND SERVICES TO OVER 228 INDIVIDUALS OF ALL ABILITIES, INCLUDING THOSE WITH MENTAL AND/OR PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUES. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS-THE YMCA IS A WORLDWIDE MOVEMENT WITH A GOAL OF PROMOTING HEALTH AND WELL-BEING AND WORLD MINDEDNESS. YMCA INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS PROMOTE INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING THROUGH EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT, OVERSEAS OPPORTUNITIES AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING IN COOPERATION WITH YMCAS IN OVER 120 COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD. OUTSIDE GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS USED OUR FACILITIES FOR CHURCH SERVICES, TRAINING GROUPS, AFTER-PROMS, RETREATS, COMPANY PICNICS, FAMILY REUNIONS, CHILDCARE TRAINING, AND COMMUNITY WELL-BEING PROGRAMS. IN 2009, THE ARTHUR HOLDEN LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE WAS ESTABLISHED AT THE OFC. THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO WORK WITH SIXTH, SEVENTH, AND EIGHTH GRADERS, ENCOURAGE LEARNING AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS IN AN OUTDOOR EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT WITH THE FOCUS ON MATH AND SCIENCE. THIS IS A 3-YEAR PROGRAM WITH DIFFERENT AREAS OF STUDY FOR EACH YEAR. THERE IS NO FEE FOR THE PARTICIPANTS. ACTIVATE AMERICA IS AT THE CORE OF OUR MISSION.
