The association sometimes asks the spouse of the CEO to travel to meetings to act as a hostess at functions involving other bankers and their spouses. The association pays for the spouse's air travel and meals. The value of the travel reported as income to the CEO on a 1099 each year.For the travel, the association reimburses the CEO for the estimated tax due to the increased income from spouse travel, on a gross up method. Per our negotiated, written contract with the CEO and General Counsel, the association pays certain social club dues. A third employee's club dues are paid because virtually all the expenses incurred are for business purposes.
