COMPLETED NUMEROUS COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS FOR EASTERN AREA ADULT SERVICES, THE WESTINGHOUSE VALLEY HUMAN SERVICES CENTER, MEALS ON WHEELS, AND PANTRY NETWORK OF EASTERN SUBURBS. LEARNED THE FUNDAMENTALS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS AND NUTRITION THROUGH WEEKLY EXERCISE CLASSES AND SEMINARS OFFERED BY OUR RECREATION ASSOCIATE. IN AN EFFORT TO MEET THE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT NEEDS OF TEENAGERS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 14 AND 18, THIRTEEN YOUTH WERE HIRED AS COUNSELORS IN TRAINING (CITS) THIS SUMMER. THEY ASSISTED THE TEACHERS AND KOOL PROGRAMS STAFF WITH NUMEROUS DUTIES, SUCH AS PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTING COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES, PROMOTING A SAFE AND HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT, AND SETTING A POSITIVE EXAMPLE. TEN OF THE CITS PARTICIPATED IN THE READY TO WORK SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM THROUGH YOUTHWORKS AND ALL OF OUR CITS HAD A VERY FAVORABLE LEARNING EXPERIENCE. THEY GAINED JOB-READINESS SKILLS TO PREPARE THEM FOR FUTURE EMPLOYMENT AND ESTABLISHED LONG-LASTING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR KOOL PARTICIPANTS, AND STAFF.
