THE PURPOSE OF THE CRIM FITNESS FOUNDATION,INC.(THE CRIM) IS TO PROMOTE PARTICIPITORY HEALTH AND FITNESS ACTIVITIES, WHICH BENEFIT THE GREATER FLINT COMMUNITY. THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE OPERATING A WORLD CLASS ROAD RACE IN THE CITY OF FLINT, MICHIGAN; FACILITATING COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS PROMOTING HEALTHY LIFESTYLES, DESIGNING AND OFFERING PROGRAMS AND INFORMATIONAL RESOURSES TO PROMOTE ACTIVE LIVING; AND FOSTERING COMMUNITY PRIDE AND COOPERATION AMONG RESIDENTS OF THE GREATER FLINT AREA. IN CARRYING OUT THIS PURPOSE, ALL EXPENDITURES AND ACTIONS OF THE CRIM MUST BE SPECIFICALLY PERMITTED BY SECTION 501(C)(3) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE AND AS AMENDED.

CRIM BOARD MEMBER JUDY SAMELSON, THE NEIGHBORHOOD RUNNING CLUBS ALLOW AREA CHILDREN TO TRAIN FOR THE UPCOMING CRIM RACES. DURING 2010, 500 CHILDREN IN 22 CLUBS TOOK TO THE STREETS OF GENESEE AND OAKLAND COUNTIES TO TRAIN. CRIMKIDS INVITATIONAL HELD THE FRIDAY NIGHT BEFORE THE CRIM, THE INVITATIONAL IS THE CULMINATING ACTIVITY FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD RUNNING CLUBS. IN 2010, 300 CHILDREN TOOK PART IN THE INVITATIONAL WITH PRIDE AND A SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR THEIR WORK DURING THE SUMMER. TEDDY BEAR TROT STARTED IN 1988 AS A WAY TO GET FUTURE CRIM RUNNERS INVOLVED IN RACE DAY ACTIVITIES. THIS EVENT GIVES CHILDREN A RACE OF THEIR OWN AND HAS QUICKLY BECOME A FLAGSHIP EVENT FOR THE YOUTH PROGRAMS. IN 2010, 800 PARTICIPATED IN A TEDDY BEAR TROT EVENT DURING THE CRIM FESTIVAL OF RACES. CRIMKIDS CLASSIC SINCE 1994, THE KIDS CLASSIC HAS BECOME IMPORTANT DAY FOR THE CITY OF FLINT. CHILDREN FROM THE AGES 0-12 PARTICIPATE IN THE DIAPER DASH, TODDLER TROT, AND THE QUARTER, HALF OR ONE MILE RACE. 750 CHILDREN ENTERED AT LEAST ONE THE KIDS CLASSIC EVENTS IN 2010. VOLUNTEERS HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS HELP FACILITATE THE CRIMFIT YOUTH PROGRAM AND EVENTS, INCLUDING HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS.

THE BROOKSIE WAY HALF MARATHON AND 5K DEBUTED AS THE LARGEST FIRST TIME ROAD RACE IN THE STATE'S HISTORY, AND HAS CONTINUED TO GROW EVERY YEAR, WITH OVER 5,000 PARTICIPANTS IN 2010. PROCEEDS FROM THE BROOKSIE WAY GO TO SUPPORT HEALTH AND FITNESS PROGRAMS IN OAKLAND COUNTY, AND ARE AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC ACCESS THROUGH AN ANNUAL MINI -GRANT PROGRAM. VOLUNTEERS NEARLY 2,000 COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS PLAY A VITAL ROLE IN PUTTING ON THESE EVENTS.

DESIGNED BY OLYMPIAN AND TRAINING EXPERT JEFF GALLOWAY, THE CRIM TRAINING PROGRAM IS THE LARGEST OF ITS KIND IN THE COUNTRY AND GIVES PARTICIPANTS THE MOTIVATION AND SUPPORT TO COMPLETE ONE OF THE CRIM RACES. SPONSORED BY HURLEY HEALTH & FITNESS CENTER, THE PROGRAM BRINGS THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER AND PUTS THEM ON THE RIGHT TRACK TOWARD A MORE ACTIVE AND FIT LIFESTYLE. VOLUNTEERS NEARLY 160 VOLUNTEERS HELP FACILITATE THE TRAINING PROGRAM BY PARTICIPATING AS TRAINING GROUP LEADERS DURING THE 15 WEEK TRAINING PROGRAM DURATION.
