What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? PAIR helps young refugees legally resettled to Houston adjust to the United States, succeed in secondary school, and pursue higher education. 1. Saturday Sessions: Newly-arrived refugee youth in grades 6-8 participate in a year-long orientation program. Saturday sessions served 32 refugee youth in the 2010-2011 academic year. 2. Mentoring & Tutoring: Volunteers meet with students at local middle schools several times a week to provide tutoring, English practice, and supportive relationships. M&T served 72 refugee youth in the 2010-2011 academic year. 3. College Counseling: Volunteers meet weekly with high school refugees and review SAT preparation, college essay writing, participating in extra-curricular activities, and resume building. College Counseling served 40 refugee youth in the 2010-2011 academic year. 4. Once per semester, PAIR brings a group of refugee youth to a local college campus. College Orientation days served over 80 students in the 2010-2011 academic year.

28 PAIR has achieved significant success in the 2010-2011 academic year. PAIR programs have served: *32 refugee youth in Saturday Sessions program; *72 refugee youth in Mentoring & Tutoring programs; *40 refugee youth in College Counseling Program; and *Additional refugee youth at College Orientation Days through partnerships with other community groups. In addition, PAIR has: *Significantly increased the number of refugee youth and volunteer mentors and tutors in regular programs; *Established a second student group at the University of Houston; *Piloted a second Mentoring and Tutoring program at Las Americas Middle School; *Expanded the College Counseling program to include sessions at Westbury High School; and *Developed new partnerships with public schools and private nonprofit organizations to provide and strengthen programs.
