What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The Oregon Area Jewish Committee is the leading Jewish communal voice in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Through Jewish values, we advance social justice, human rights, religious liberty, support for Israel, mutual understanding, and democratic principles. OAJC aspires to be the area's Jewish ambassador to the community at large.
Describe what was achieved in carrying out the organization's exempt purposes. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 OTHER PROGRAMS THAT THE OREGON AREA JEWISH COMMITTEE IS INVOLVED WITH THAT ARE RELATED DIRECTLY TO THE MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION:KINDERTRANSPORT. OAJC WAS A MAJOR COLLABORATING PARTNER WITH THE JEWISH THEATRE COLLABORATIVE ON THE KINDERTRANSPORT PROJECT. THE PROJECT INVOLVED A FULLY-STAGED SEVERAL WEEK RUN OF KINDERTRANSPORT, A PLAY WITH A HOLOCAUST THEME PRESENTED IN FEBRUARY AND MARCH OF 2010. IT ALSO INCLUDED TALK-BACKS AFTER EVERY PERFORMANCE WITH EITHER HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS OR SURVIVORS OF MORE RECENT GENOCIDES. OAJC WAS THE MAIN SPONSOR FOR TWO SPECIAL MONDAY-EVENING STAGED READINGS. THE READINGS WERE OF "HONEY BROWN EYES," A PLAY ABOUT THE BOSNIAN GENOCIDE AND "IN DARFUR," A PLAY BASED ON THE WORK OF NY TIMES COLUMNIST NICHOLAS KRISTOF. THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR LED THE TALK-BACK ON BOTH OF THOSE EVENINGS. OAJC PRESIDENT LIBBY SCHWARTZ SPOKE AT THE OPENING NIGHT RECEPTION FOR THE MAIN PLAY.OAJC INTERGROUP SEDER. THE OAJC INTERGROUP PASSOVER SEDER WAS HELD AT CONGREGATION NEVEH SHALOM ON MARCH 21. ABOUT 85 PEOPLE ATTENDED. RABBI DANIEL ISAAK LED THE SEDER, WHICH IS OPEN TO PEOPLE FROM ALL FAITHS, ETHNIC GROUPS, ETC. YOM HASHOAH - OAJC'S HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY PROGRAM, UNTO EVERY PERSON THERE IS A NAME, WAS HELD ON APRIL 12, 2010. UNTO EVERY PERSON THERE IS A NAME IS A READING OF NAMES OF HOLOCAUST VICTIMS ON PIONEER COURTHOUSE SQUARE IN DOWNTOWN PORTLAND. READERS INCLUDE OAJC BOARD MEMBERS, COUNTY AND CITY COMMISSIONERS, INTERFAITH LEADERS, ETC. INTER-RELIGIOUS ACTION NETWORK OF WASHINGTON COUNTY. AS A MEMBER OF THE IAN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND THE CO-CHAIR OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WAS THE CO-CHAIR FOR THE 2010 INTERFAITH THANKSGIVING EVENT IN HILLSBORO. OAJC BOARD MEMBER CARON ROTHSTEIN AND HER SON JONAH WERE READERS IN THE PROGRAM THAT WAS ATTENDED BY OVER 400 PEOPLE. THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ALSO FACILITATED A SERIES OF MULTI-FAITH DIALOGUES FOR THE IAN.INTER-RELIGIOUS ACTION NETWORK OF WASHINGTON COUNTYOREGON FAITH ROUNDTABLE AGAINST HUNGERHUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL OF WASHINGTON COUNTYHUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PORTLANDCOALITION AGAINST HATE CRIMESNEVER AGAIN COALITION (ADVOCACY FOR DARFUR AND CONGO)LDS/JEWISH DIALOGUECATHOLIC/JEWISH DIALOGUE

29 Luncheon Lecture Series. The OAJC Luncheon Lecture Series continued in January with a talk by Sister Pat Nagle on the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference. In February Natan Meir, PSU Professor of Judaic Studies, was the presenter. The Series concluded in April with a talk by Richard Read of The Oregonian. All presentations were held at the Living Room Theaters. There were 95 in attendance.

30 THE HARVEST OF HOPE BREAKFAST IS HELD YEARLY. IT IS PUT ON BY A COALITION OF ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAS FORMED THE OREGON FAITH ROUNDTABLE AGAINST HUNGER (OFRAH). OAJC IS ONE OF 6 CONVENING ORGANIZATIONS FOR OFRAH. THE 2010 EVENT FEATURED OREGON SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE DAVE HUNT. AT THE EVENT, THE HARVEST OF HOPE AWARDS WERE PRESENTED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE/ORGANIZATIONS FOR THEIR WORK IN THE ANTI-HUNGER FIELD. THE HARVEST OF HOPE BREAKFAST AND OUR WORK WITH OFRAH FURTHER THE MISSION AND GOALS OF OAJC THROUGH ITS INTERFAITH NATURE AND ITS FOCUS ON ADVOCACY AROUND HUNGER ISSUES. THERE WERE APRROXIMATELY 100 IN ATTENDANCE.
