	The Bureau has a single purpose in all of its exempt achievements (programs) and that is the collection, and dissemination of information regarding businesses in the Southern Nevada area. These activities may include programs to enable other like-minded business owners and managers to meet other accredited business owners and consumers at functions such as the BBB Annual Luncheon, golf tournaments, and mixers or programs that relate information regarding the companies' activities such as hyperlink, click to check, BBB OnLine, etc. All events, functions and programs are to encourage and assist in the dissemination of information regarding the business and the development of possible consumer relationships. The Bureau reports on accredited businesses and non-accredited business in order to enable other interested businesses, consumers and enforcement agencies to have accurate information regarding the marketplace business practices of these businesses and to make informed purchasing, donating or investing decisions.Accreditation defined: If a business has been accredited by the BBB, it means the BBB has determined that the business meets accreditation standards which include a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints BBB accredited businesses pay a fee for accreditation review/monitoring and for support of BBB services to the public.BBB Code of Business Practices represents standards for business accreditation by the BBB. Businesses based in the Southern Nevada area that meet these standards and complete all application procedures will be accredited by the BBB. The Code is built on the BBB Standards for Trust, eight principles that summarize important elements of creating and maintaining trust in business.BBB accreditation does not mean that the business' products or services have been evaluated or endorsed by the BBB, or that the BBB has made a determination as to the business' product quality or competency in performing services.Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation.

	The Better Business Bureau of Southern Nevada, Inc. is a non-profit, private organization which is supported by its accreditation dues and donations from consumers. The Bureau is a public service, information dissemination organization, which assists consumers and businesses with various business and consumer inquiries and complaint related problems. The Bureau produces reliability reports on companies, both accredited and non-accredited companies within the Southern Nevada area, fosters self regulation and educates consumers and businesses on the process of making informed buying decisions.During 2010, the Better Business Bureau of Southern Nevada received approximately 1,133,000 inquires via telephone, email and through our web site, processed (closed) 10,438 complaints and handled an estimated 1,000 walk-ins. Bureau staff reviewed approximately 2,500+ web sites and over 500 Yellow Page ads for truth in advertising and/or logo issues. The Bureau Accredited Business membership decreased by approximately 1,600 businesses during 2010 after a through review of membership.

	In addition to the above activities and/or programs, the Bureau has been involved in automobile arbitration cases on new automobiles with the major automobile manufacturers, and other arbitration cases that might have been handled in small claims court otherwise. It has participated in advocacy and educational programs in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, Federal Trade Commission, local libraries, sent out numerous fax scam alerts, Bureau staff have appeared on several local television stations on consumer related issues, and served a multi-lingual community through English - foreign language brochures and newspaper co-operative advertisements. The Bureau has been responsive to community out-reach and educational programs to benefit the consuming public of all ages, ethnic background, and religious affiliations.
