VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE SERVICES IS A NOT FOR PROFIT SOCIAL SERVICE ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES VOCATIONAL EVALUATION, TRAINING, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB PLACEMENT AND OTHER SOCIAL SERVICES TO PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND OTHER SPECIAL NEEDS.
FIRST ACHIEVEMENT DESCRIPTION

TRANSITIONAL EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES PEOPLE OPPORTUNITIES TO EARN A PAYCHECK WHILE LEARNING APPROPRIATE WORKPLACE BEHAVIORS AND ACQUIRING EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS. AFTER AN INDIVIDUAL'S INTERESTS AND ABILITIES HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED, SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMS GIVE THEM THE TOOLS NECESSARY TO GAIN EMPLOYMENT. HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE IN COMPUTER, CUSTODIAL, CUSTOMER SERVICE, TEXTILES, FOOD SERVICE, AND BUILDING MAINTENANCE IN COMBINATION WITH CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION, PROVIDE PEOPLE WITH MARKETABLE SKILLS TO TAKE WITH THEM INTO A WORK ENVIRONMENT. MANY CONSUMERS WILL REQUIRE WORK EXPERIENCE AS PART OF THEIR TRAINING EXPERIENCE. ONCE TRAINING IS COMPLETE AND SKILLS HAVE BEEN ACQUIRED, VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE SERVICES' PROFESSIONAL STAFF MEMBERS GUIDE PEOPLE THROUGH EVERY ASPECT OF THE JOB SEARCH PROCESS, FROM IDENTIFYING EMPLOYER EXPECTATIONS AND FILLING OUT APPLICATIONS TO RESUME CREATION AND INTERVIEW PREPARATION. DURING THE YEAR WE SERVED 4,558 UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS, PROVIDED WORK EXPERIENCE THROUGH AFFILIATED COMPANIES VGS, INC. AND VOCATIONAL SERVICES, INC. TO 636 UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS AND ALSO SERVED WERE 400 DEVELOPMENTAL DISABLED CONSUMERS IN PERSONAL, SOCIAL, COMMUNITY & EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS.

OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF CLEVELAND THROUGH THE WIA (WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT) YOUTH PROGRAM CONTINUES TO PROVIDE TRAINING AND WORK OPPORTUNITIES TO OLDER YOUTH. VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE SERVICES WAS CHOSEN FOR A THIRD YEAR AS A VRP3 VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION PARTNER IN 2010 TO PROVIDE OHIO REHABILITATION SERVICE COMMISSION CONSUMERS WITH VOCATIONAL EXPERIENCES TO READY THEM FOR EMPLOYMENT. THE TRANSITIONAL JOBS PROGRAM PROVIDED INTENSIVE CASE MANAGEMENT, LITERACY TRAINING, AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AS COMPONENTS TO A SUPPORTED WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM WITH GOALS OF PLACEMENT AND RETENTION IN THE JOBS MARKET.
