    Part IX-A Summary of Direct Charitable Activites Form 990PF PROFESSIONAL FORUMS Annual Summit on Evidence-Based Special Education: The Wing Institute conceptualized, developed, hosted and facilitated its sixth Annual Summit on Evidence-based Special Education. The theme of the 2011 Summit was: Performance Feedback: Using Data to Improve Educator Performance. This Summit examined the critical role of performance feedback at all levels of education: student, teacher, and system. It was designed to facilitate communication, collaboration, and cooperation among "education stakeholders" from various disciplines, service and research areas as well as consumers who have experience with, and interest in, evidence-based special education. The summit included representatives from fifty-nine different organizations, twenty different professions, from sixteen states. The program included pre-summit activities (a reading course and on-line survey), resource packets of relevant information, presentations by respected experts from across the nation, interactive work groups, and follow-up activities.Annual Evidence-based Education Professional Forum: The Wing Institute conceptualized, developed, hosted and facilitated its Sixth Annual Evidence-based Professional Forum. The forum was designed to bring together a small group of leaders in the field to provide input and feedback on the strategies and activities of the Wing Institute, as well as develop a plan for the ongoing promotion of evidence-based education policies and practices in society. The 2011 Forum had sixteen invited participants and heard nine different presentations on state-of-the-art projects and research in evidence-based education, including: intervention review models for autism services, use of value added assessment in evaluating teachers, transitioning public supported education interventions to private support, effective use of data in school districts, and school reform in different cultures.Professional Advisory Group: The Wing Institute created and implemented a Professional Advisory Group of leaders in the field to provide ongoing input and support to its activities. The forum met on a regular basis to review issues and opportunities for promoting an evidence-based education culture, as well as coordinate group activities and assignments.Professional Conferences: The Wing Institute gave sixteen presentations at professional conferences across the country sharing its research, reviews, and analyses. RESEARCH/ PUBLICATIONS Web-based Evidence-based Education Data-mining: The Wing Institute continues to implement an ongoing process for seeking out and disseminating research, publications, resources, etc. as they related to evidence-based education. This research is analyzed, organized, and disseminated across the Wing Institutes various information channels. The Wing Institute's web site provides a "mind-map" for interested parties to find a subject of interest, access research and policy papers on that topic, and read an analysis/review by Wing Institute staff on the relevance, strength, and details of the research.
