28 HERITAGE ROSE FOUNDATION ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR 2010: GREAT ROSARIAN OF THE WORLD EVENTS: MEMBERS OF THE FOUNDATION ATTENDED AND PARTICIPATED IN THE GREAT ROSARIAN OF THE WORLD WEST (JANUARY 23, HUNTINGTON BOTANIC GARDEN, CA) AND THE GREAT ROSARIAN OF THE WORLD EAST(JUNE 11/12, NYC) EVENTS. ROSA MUNDI: TWO BEAUTIFUL ISSUES OF ROSA MUNDI WERE PUBLISHED IN 2010. THE FOUNDATION HAS BEGUN PREPARATION FOR A NEW FORMAT OF ROSA MUNDI. IN MAY OF 2011, THE FIRST ISSUE WILL BE A BOOK-STYLE JOURNAL WITH 96+ PAGES IN FULL COLOR. THE TITLE OF THIS SPECIAL EDITION OF ROSA MUNDI WILL BE "MYSTERY ROSES AROUND THE WORLD". WE HAVE RECEIVED DONATIONS FROM MEMBERS TO HELP FUND THIS PROJECT. IN 2010, MEMBER DEAN OSWALD DONATED 1,000 TO BE USED FOR THE NEW ROSA MUNDI. HERITAGE ROSE DISTRICT OF NEW YORK CITY: THIS PROJECT IS CONTINUING TO EXPAND WITH OVER 400 HERITAGE ROSES NOW PLANTED IN 15 DIFFERENT SITES. THIS YEAR WE ADDED THE FOLLOWING SITES TO THE DISTRICT: HARRIET TUBMAN MEMORIAL, MAGGIE'S GARDEN, HAMILTON GRANGE, ST. NICHOLAS PARK, RIVERSIDE VALLEY COMMUNITY GARDEN, AND THE BENZINGER -ABRAHAM HOUSE. THE ROSES WERE PLANTED ON APRIL 24, AS PART OF NEW YORK CITY'S CELEBRATION OF EARTH DAY AND ON OCTOBER 23. CHILDREN FROM THE BROADWAY HOUSING AUTHORITY HELPED PLANT ROSES IN OCTOBER. WE HAVE BEEN INVITED BY THE BROADWAY HOUSING AUTHORITY TO ADD A ROSE GARDEN TO THE ROOF OF THE FAITH RINGGOLD CHILDREN'S MUSEUM. THIS SITE WILL BE READY IN 2013. WE WILL ALSO BE CREATING A CHILDREN'S ROSE GARDEN IN THE GARTH OF THE CHURCH OF THE INTERCESSION. LOCAL MEMBERS CONTINUE TO VOLUNTEER IN THE DISTRICT MAINTAING THE ESTABLISHED PLANTINGS. IN 2010, ROSES WERE DONATED BY: FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE, ANTIQUE ROSE EMPORIUM, VINTAGE GARDENS, ANGEL GARDENS, BROOKLYN BOTANIC GARDEN, AND XIAO RYAN. BULBS DONATED BY: BETTY VICKERS, FLOY DARDEN, OLD HOUSE GARDENS, AND STEPHEN SCANNIELLO. CAMELLIAS DONATED BY PLEASANT RUN NURSERY. JACOB GRAFF, A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT FROM DALLAS, WILL BE DESIGNING A WALKING TOUR IN THE FORMAT OF AN APP FOR SMARTPHONES. HERITAGE ROSE FOUNDATION HABITAT GARDEN: MEMBERS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY VOLUNTEERED SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE YEAR TO WORK IN THE HERITAGE ROSE FOUNDATION HABITAT GARDEN LOCATED IN THE AMERICAN ROSE CENTER IN SHREVEPORT, LA. THIS WORK IS ONGOING, WITH FREQUENT VISITS FROM LOCAL MEMBERS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR DOING GARDEN MAINTENANCE. DURING THE YEAR THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WERE DONATED: BOULDER BENCHES; A STONE FOUNTAIN; ROSE PLANTS; AND AN EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF NATIVE AND HEIRLOOM TREES, SHRUBS, PERENNIALS, HERBS, AND BULBS. SOME SPECIFIC DATES: FEBRUARY 20 - ANNUAL PRUNING PARTY AND WINTER CLEANUP; NEW PLANTING BEDS WERE CREATED; MARCH 25 - PLANTED ROSES; JULY 19 - GARDEN MAINTENANCE; NOVEMBER 15 - PLANTS ADDED; DECEMBER 4 - MEMBERS PLANTED ROSES, PERENNIALS, TREES, SHRUBS, AND BULBS. A NEW MAP OF THE GARDEN WAS CREATED BY GENE RYAN AND DAGNI SENZAL. ROSES WERE DONATED BY THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS: FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE (DR. MALCOLM MANNERS), BEYYT VICKERS, MARILYN WELLAN. HERITAGE ROSE COLLECTION IN WASHINGTON, CT: THE FOUNDATION IS ADVISING THE STEEP ROCK ASSOCIATION AND LAND TRUST, LOCATED IN WASHINGTON, CT IN THE CREATION OF A HERITAGE ROSE COLLECTION ON ONE OF THEIR HISTORIC PROPERTIES. FIRST ACHIEVEMENT FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28 HERITAGE ROSE FOUNDATION ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR 2010: GREAT ROSARIAN OF THE WORLD EVENTS: MEMBERS OF THE FOUNDATION ATTENDED AND PARTICIPATED IN THE GREAT ROSARIAN OF THE WORLD WEST (JANUARY 23, HUNTINGTON BOTANIC GARDEN, CA) AND THE GREAT ROSARIAN OF THE WORLD EAST(JUNE 11/12, NYC) EVENTS. ROSA MUNDI: TWO BEAUTIFUL ISSUES OF ROSA MUNDI WERE PUBLISHED IN 2010. THE FOUNDATION HAS BEGUN PREPARATION FOR A NEW FORMAT OF ROSA MUNDI. IN MAY OF 2011, THE FIRST ISSUE WILL BE A BOOK-STYLE JOURNAL WITH 96+ PAGES IN FULL COLOR. THE TITLE OF THIS SPECIAL EDITION OF ROSA MUNDI WILL BE "MYSTERY ROSES AROUND THE WORLD". WE HAVE RECEIVED DONATIONS FROM MEMBERS TO HELP FUND THIS PROJECT. IN 2010, MEMBER DEAN OSWALD DONATED 1,000 TO BE USED FOR THE NEW ROSA MUNDI. HERITAGE ROSE DISTRICT OF NEW YORK CITY: THIS PROJECT IS CONTINUING TO EXPAND WITH OVER 400 HERITAGE ROSES NOW PLANTED IN 15 DIFFERENT SITES. THIS YEAR WE ADDED THE FOLLOWING SITES TO THE DISTRICT: HARRIET TUBMAN MEMORIAL, MAGGIE'S GARDEN, HAMILTON GRANGE, ST. NICHOLAS PARK, RIVERSIDE VALLEY COMMUNITY GARDEN, AND THE BENZINGER -ABRAHAM HOUSE. THE ROSES WERE PLANTED ON APRIL 24, AS PART OF NEW YORK CITY'S CELEBRATION OF EARTH DAY AND ON OCTOBER 23. CHILDREN FROM THE BROADWAY HOUSING AUTHORITY HELPED PLANT ROSES IN OCTOBER. WE HAVE BEEN INVITED BY THE BROADWAY HOUSING AUTHORITY TO ADD A ROSE GARDEN TO THE ROOF OF THE FAITH RINGGOLD CHILDREN'S MUSEUM. THIS SITE WILL BE READY IN 2013. WE WILL ALSO BE CREATING A CHILDREN'S ROSE GARDEN IN THE GARTH OF THE CHURCH OF THE INTERCESSION. LOCAL MEMBERS CONTINUE TO VOLUNTEER IN THE DISTRICT MAINTAING THE ESTABLISHED PLANTINGS. IN 2010, ROSES WERE DONATED BY: FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE, ANTIQUE ROSE EMPORIUM, VINTAGE GARDENS, ANGEL GARDENS, BROOKLYN BOTANIC GARDEN, AND XIAO RYAN. BULBS DONATED BY: BETTY VICKERS, FLOY DARDEN, OLD HOUSE GARDENS, AND STEPHEN SCANNIELLO. CAMELLIAS DONATED BY PLEASANT RUN NURSERY. JACOB GRAFF, A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT FROM DALLAS, WILL BE DESIGNING A WALKING TOUR IN THE FORMAT OF AN APP FOR SMARTPHONES. HERITAGE ROSE FOUNDATION HABITAT GARDEN: MEMBERS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY VOLUNTEERED SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE YEAR TO WORK IN THE HERITAGE ROSE FOUNDATION HABITAT GARDEN LOCATED IN THE AMERICAN ROSE CENTER IN SHREVEPORT, LA. THIS WORK IS ONGOING, WITH FREQUENT VISITS FROM LOCAL MEMBERS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR DOING GARDEN MAINTENANCE. DURING THE YEAR THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WERE DONATED: BOULDER BENCHES; A STONE FOUNTAIN; ROSE PLANTS; AND AN EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF NATIVE AND HEIRLOOM TREES, SHRUBS, PERENNIALS, HERBS, AND BULBS. SOME SPECIFIC DATES: FEBRUARY 20 - ANNUAL PRUNING PARTY AND WINTER CLEANUP; NEW PLANTING BEDS WERE CREATED; MARCH 25 - PLANTED ROSES; JULY 19 - GARDEN MAINTENANCE; NOVEMBER 15 - PLANTS ADDED; DECEMBER 4 - MEMBERS PLANTED ROSES, PERENNIALS, TREES, SHRUBS, AND BULBS. A NEW MAP OF THE GARDEN WAS CREATED BY GENE RYAN AND DAGNI SENZAL. ROSES WERE DONATED BY THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS: FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE (DR. MALCOLM MANNERS), BEYYT VICKERS, MARILYN WELLAN. PERENNIALS/SHRUBS/BULBS WERE DONATED BY: STEPHEN SCANNIELLO, BETTY VICKERS, FLOY AND JOHN DARDEN, CELIA JONES, OLD HOUSE GARDENS AND WILLIS FARM. STONE FOUNTAIN WAS DONATED BY BETTY VICKERS. STONE BENCHES AND LARGE BOULDERS DONATED BY MARILYN WELLAN. HERITAGE ROSE GARDEN AT ELIZABETH PARK, WEST HARTFORD,CT: THE FOUNDATION IS CONTINUING TO SERVE AS AN ADVISOR TO THE NEW HERITAGE ROSE GARDEN IN ELIZABETH PARK, LOCATED IN WEST HARTFORD, CT. ROSE SYMPOSIUM AT WYCK: THE HERITAGE ROSE FOUNDATION CO-SPONSORED A DAY-LONG SYMPOSIUM WITH WYCK, A HISTORIC PROPERTY IN PHILADELPHIA, PA. HELD ON JUNE 5. SEVERAL MEMBERS OF THE FOUNDATION WERE SPEAKERS FOR THIS EVENT. AN AUCTION OF RARE ROSES WAS HELD TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE FOUNDATION. ROSE DANGO: MEMBERS OF THE FOUNDATION VOLUNTEERED WITH THE CHAMBERSVILLE TREE FARM, IN CHAMBERSVILLE, TX., AT THE ANNUAL ROSE DANGO EVENT IN APRIL. INTERNATIONAL ROSE TRIALS AT BAGATELLE, PARIS, FRANCE: SEVERAL MEMBERS OF THE FOUNDATION SERVED AS JUDGES FOR THE INTERNATIONAL ROSE TRIALS HELD AT BAGATELLE IN PARIS, FRANCE ON JUNE 17. HERITAGE ROSE COLLECTION IN WASHINGTON, CT: THE FOUNDATION IS ADVISING THE STEEP ROCK ASSOCIATION AND LAND TRUST, LOCATED IN WASHINGTON, CT IN THE CREATION OF A HERITAGE ROSE COLLECTION ON ONE OF THEIR HISTORIC PROPERTIES.
