Facts And Circumstances Test
Explanation
SECTION D, LINE 20: In February, 2011 we received grants of $1,700 from the Corcoran Development Fund and $2,500 from the Abramson Family foundation,to support our invited presentation at the SGCC National Printmaking Conference at Washington University in St. Louis, March, 2011. 400 people attended our presentation. In addition Hand Print workshop was approved for a $45,000 grant from the NEA for our project, "Midwest Matrix." which will make $49,200. to date for 2011 in grants and contributions. In the 20 years HPWI has been a 501(c)3 its only been the past 2 years that it has fallen short of the 33% test. The economy and other factors put a strain on the studio as well, from which we are close to full recovery. We continue to be actively involved in experimental and educational programs with artists and students, nationally and internationally, and print projects of every kind that support our mission. Collectively and with additional additional support this should attract to the studio both mixed public and governmental support."Midwest Matrix" is an historic project that is national in scope. An oral history of post WWII emergence of print workshops and artists in the mid west. Artist prints, panels and related events will be part of the program played out here at the studio and in universities throughout the US. It will expand our programs and ability to offer support to a wider range of the arts community than before. I hope this will enable us to continue as a 501(c)(3) and get ourselves back to where we should be. If we are a private foundation I believe we will loose our eligibility for these funds and and future projects for which we are known. I think we are a good investment. thank you.

Explanation:
I was delayed returning from a trip to Memphis for my son's graduation and missed the date for filing an extension. I called the IRS about it. They suggested that my record is good, a letter might help with this. My (other) job as chair of Fine Arts at the Corcoran College of Art during graduation week on May 21st made it difficult for me to complete this until now.
