OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Other PrograMSOUR PROGRAMS HOLD THE EXEMPLARY MEALS ON WHEELS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA (MOWAA) MAGNET ACCREDITATION, INDICATING THAT OUR PROGRAMS OPERATE ACCORDING TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS.Other programs and services provided by Meals on Wheels Plus are: Nutritional Counseling program is a one on one opportunity for a client to discuss eating and food concerns with a Licensed Registered Dietitian to reduce any health concerns for at risk clients. Telephone Reassurance is a program in which volunteers make scheduled calls to home bound seniors providing conversation and to check on the clients well being with a pre-arranged emergency contacts. The Outreach program allows for the distribution and the sharing of information about our all services in the community to the targeted low Income, limited English speaking and rural areas in Manatee County. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: The Food Bank of Manatee:The Food Bank of Manatee provides nutritional assistance to individuals in need throughout Manatee County by distributing food to non-profit agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, and churches. Families in an emergency crisis situation can receive emergency food baskets on a temporary basis, infant care baskets for a new baby up until they are 2 years of age, and pet food. A recent study showed that 1 out of 8 people are going hungry. The Food Bank of Manatee is the largest hunger prevention organization in Manatee County. In 2009, The Food Bank distributed enough food for 2.7 million meals. Food is distributed to individuals and families through one of our partner social service agencies. To work most efficiently, we do not provide food directly to the public. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Transportation: The Transportation program currently provides all of the client transportation needs for the Adult Day Care and the Friendship Dining Center programs in Manatee County. They also provide organized field trips and transportation to special events in addition to the daily routes. The Transportation program consists of a fleet of comfortable state of the art handicap accessible buses, all secured through grants. The Transportation department is responsible for all of the day to day client transportation, food service transit, Senior Wheels, dispatch .and the fleet maintenance of 22 vehicles. Senior Wheels is a door to door membership transportation program for seniors 50 plus of Manatee County to assist them by providing transportation as a way to gain access to services and activities in the surrounding community.
