DETAILED STATEMENT OF PROGRAM SERVICE ACTIVITIES:

THE ORGANIZATION (WEDC) WAS FORMED TO EXPAND BUSINESS OWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AND TO ENHANCE EMPLOYABILITY AND UPWARD JOB MOBILITY FOR SIGNIFICANT POPULATIONS OF DISADVANTAGED WOMEN IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY AND THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY IN NEW YORK STATE . THE PROGRAM WAS DESIGNED FOR WOMEN WHO ARE TRANSITIONING OFF PUBLIC ASSISTANCE, DISPLACED HOMEMAKERS, LATINAS, AND CHILD CARE PROVIDERS WHO WISH TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESSES. WEDC'S GOAL IS TO PROVIDE WOMEN WITH THE SKILLS, TOOLS AND RESOURCES THEY NEED TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESSES, TO EXPAND THEM AND TO ACHIEVE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY. WEDC ACHIEVES ITS GOALS BY OFFERING THE FOLLOWING ASSISTANCE - ENTREPRENEURIAL ASSESSMENT AND TRAINING; POST-TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS INCLUDING PEER SUPPORT GROUPS AND NETWORKING EVENTS;MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES AND SUCCESS SEMINARS; TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND GUIDANCE IN LOCATING FUNDING SOURCES SUCH AS GRANTS FOR MICRO ENTREPRENEURS, MICROLOANS, AND PARTICIPATION IN INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT ACCOUNTS (IDA'S), WHICH ARE MATCHED SAVINGS ACCOUNT PROGRAMS. PROGRAMS AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH. IN 2003, THE ORGANIZATION WAS DESIGNATED AS A WOMEN'S BUSINESS CENTER BY THE UNITED STATES SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION. WEDC HAS SINCE EXPANDED ITS REACH TO ASSIST ENTREPRENEURS THROUGHOUT THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY IN NEW YORK STATE AT ALL STAGES OF THEIR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT. WEDC LAUNCHED THE ALLIANCE OF HUDSON VALLEY WOMEN BUSINESS OWNERS (FORMERLY THE WESTCHESTER ASSOCIATION OF BUSINESS OWNERS) IN 2006 TO HELP ESTABLISH WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS SUCCEED BY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM TO NETWORK, LEARN, ADVOCATE AND GROW THEIR BUSINESSES. SINCE 2007, WEDC HAS PROVIDED TRAINING AND WORKSHOPS FOR MINORITY-AND-WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESSES (M/WBES) TO HELP THEM UNDERSTAND THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS AND PROCUREMENT OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE. MANY M/WBES BECOME CERTIFIED TO INCREASE THEIR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES. IN 2008, WEDC WAS DESIGNATED AS AN ENTREPRENEURIAL CENTER (EAP) FOR WESTCHESTER COUNTY BY THE EMPIRE STATE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. EAP CENTERS PROVIDE IN-DEPTH ASSISTANCE TO MINORITIES, WOMEN, DISLOCATED WORKERS, WORKERS AND INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES, TO HELP THEM LAUNCH A BUSINESS AND TO OBTAIN BUSINESS FINANCING. DURING 2010, WEDC JOINED BUSINESS OUTREACH CENTER NETWORK, INC. (BOC), WHO ESTABLISHED A COLLABORATIVE GROUP FUNDED BY THE SBA, TO ASSIST ENTREPRENEURS IN ACQUIRING MICROLOANS AND OTHER TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE THROUGH FUNDING PROVIDED UNDER THE SBA PRIME PROJECT. THE GRANT COVERS MICRO ENTREPRENEUR DEVELOPMENT IN NEW YORK CITY, WESTCHESTER COUNTY AND THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY. WEDC'S RESPONSIBILITY UNDER THIS PROJECT IS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION REGARDING THE PROGRAM TO MICRO-ENTREPRENEURS AS DEFINED BY THE PROJECT AND TO EVALUATE AND FORWARD APPLICATIONS TO BOC WHO WILL FURTHER REVIEW, APPROVE AND DISBURSE LOAN FUNDS TO APPLICANTS. BOC HAS APPROVED $ 50,000 TO WEDC FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING OCTOBER 1, 2010 TO COVER WEDC'S SHARE OF EXPENSES RELATED TO THE PROGRAM. THIS IS A FIVE YEAR PROJECT RENEWABLE ANNUALLY AT THE DISCRETION OF THE SBA. A. WEDC TRAINING AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS 1. ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAINING PROGRAMS (FOUR 15 WEEK PROGRAM CYCLES EACH YEAR) FOR WOMEN INTERESTED IN STARTING AND EXPANDING SMALL BUSINESS IN ENGLISH THAT SERVES APPROXIMATELY 80 WOMEN. ONGOING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IS PROVIDED. 2. AN ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAINING PROGRAM (ONE 15 WEEK PROGRAM EACH YEAR) FOR LATINAS INTERESTED INSTARTING AND EXPANDING SMALL BUSINESS IN SPANISH THAT SERVES APPROXIMATELY 20 WOMEN. ONGOING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IS PROVIDED.

AN ANNUAL NETWORKING EVENT IS HELD WITH BREAK OUT SESSIONS AND BUSINESS WORKSHOPS AND SERVES APPROXIMATELY 100 WOMEN. 5. APPROXIMATELY 35 WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS ARE SCHEDULED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR SERVING APPROXIMATELY 700 WOMEN. 6. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR GRADUATES OF OUR 15-WEEK ENTREPRENEURIAL PROGRAMS TO TAKE COURSES TO HELP THEM FURTHER DEVELOP THEIR SMALL BUSINESS. APPROXIMATELY SIX GRANTS RANGING FROM $200 TO $500 EACH ARE PROVIDED ANNUALLY. THE ORGANIZATION (WEDC) WAS FORMED TO EXPAND BUSINESS. THESE GRANTS ARE BASED ON NEED AND MERIT.
