Explanation:
We understand that this return was originally due 11-15-2011. On 11-14-2011 we filed a request for a 3 month extension of time to file to 2-15-12, and that extension was granted. In early February we attempted to efile the return using the efile.form990.org system. We saw a message there that the IRS had suspended accepting efiling of forms 990 and 990-EZ for a system upgrade, so we were not able to efile the return at that time. The message indicated that organizations with due dates or extended due dates falling during the time of the system upgrade would automatically have until 3-31-2012 to file their return. On doing some research, we discovered that the referenced system upgrade and automatic extensin was in fact stated clearly in IRS notice 2012-4, a small portion of which is quoted below. "In order to minimize the impact on affected organizations, the IRS is granting an extension of time to file affected returns to March 30, 2012 to organizations whose original due date (or first three-month extended due date) for the affected return occurs during the suspension period. The extension of time to file applies to all such organizations with affected return filings due during this period, whether or not they are required to file electronically." Accordingly we are filing this return prior to the 3-31-12 deadline, and assume that there will be no penalties assessed.
