THE STATED PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO ASSURE BY MEANS OF CITIZEN LEADERSHIP AND ACTION OF THE PEOPLE OF UWGPC'S SERVICE AREA ARE PROVIDED WITH AN EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE NETWORK OF HUMAN CARE SERVICES. UWGPC'S SERVICE AREA INCLUDES THE CITY OF BROCKTON AND THE TOWNS OF ABINGTON, AVON, BRIDGEWATER, CARVER, DUXBURY, EAST BRIDGEWATER, EASTON, HALIFAX, HANOVER, HANSON, KINGSTON, LAKEVILLE, MARSHFIELD, MIDDLEBORO, PEMBROKE, PLYMOUTH, PLYMPTON, ROCKLAND, STOUGHTON, WEST BRIDGEWATER AND WHITMAN.

ADDITIONAL 60,000 IN FUNDS FROM PRIVATE FOUNDATIONS, THEN LEVERAGED 838,000 IN AN 18 MONTH GRANT FROM THE MASSACHUSETTS' INTERAGENCY COUNCIL ON HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS FOR PILOT PROGRAMS TO END INDIVIDUAL CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS AND FAMILY HOMELESSNESS IN THE BROCKTON, PLYMOUTH AND QUINCY AREA. UWGPC WAS AWARDED AN ADDITIONAL 610,000 OF FEDERAL STIMULUS DOLLARS THROUGH THE CITY OF BROCKTON. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2009, TWO UWGPC PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVED AN ADDITIONAL 1.8 MILLION IN FUNDING TO PREVENT HOMELESSNESS AND RAPIDLY RE-HOUSE HOMELESS FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS. IN SUM, AN INVESTMENT OF 20,000 UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN DOLLARS GENERATED 3.2 MILLION IN NEW RESOURCES TO SOUTHEASTERN MASSACHUSETTS AS FURTHER EVIDENCE OF PROVIDING SIGNIFICANT COMMUNITY IMPACT, UWGPC PROVIDES FUNDING FOR MASS211 - A STATEWIDE, 24HR/DAY, 365 DAYS/YEAR, INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICE FOR PEOPLE LOOKING FOR NON EMERGENCY, HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES. THIS YEAR OVER 4,000 CALLS FOR HELP FROM PLYMOUTH COUNTY RESIDENTS WERE RECEIVED. UNITED WAY HAS CLEARLY DEMONSTRATED IMPACT IN REGARD TO THE COMMUNITY'S HEALTH CARE NEEDS. SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2007, UNITED WAY HAS BEEN DISTRIBUTING FAMILYWIZE DISCOUNT DRUG PRESCRIPTION CARDS TO AREA RESIDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE OR WHOSE HEALTH INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER THE COST OF THEIR DRUG PRESCRIPTIONS. OVER 15,000 USES OF THESE CARDS HAVE BEEN REGISTERED. RESIDENTS OF GREATER PLYMOUTH COUNTY SAVED 250,000 OR OVER AN AVERAGE OF 28% ON THE COST OF THEIR DRUG PRESCRIPTIONS."
