THERE WERE LARGE AMOUNTS OF MEDIA COVERAGE PROVIDED VIA TV, RADIO AND PRINT FOR BOTH EVENTS. - FIVE LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS INCLUDED PARENTS WHO HOST LOSE THE MOST CAMPAIGN MATERIALS IN THEIR GRADUATION PACKETS. - AN "EVERY 30-MINUTES" PROGRAM WAS HOSTED AT THE CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT PRIOR TO PROM/GRADUATION. - CMCA-COMMUNITIES MOBILIZING FOR CHANGE ON ALCOHOL, EVIDENCE BASED PROGRAM, IS STILL PLAYING A BIG ROLE IN ADDRESSING COMMUNITY NORMS AROUND ALCOHOL USE/ABUSE. - A 16-PAGE DRUG AWARENESS INSERT WAS DEVELOPED AND DISSEMINATED TO EVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR STUDENTS IN GRADE 7-12 AS WELL AS 14,000 SUBSCRIBERS OF THE DAILY AMERICAN. - DEVELOPED AND DISSEMINATED A 4-PAGE INSERT IN THE DAILY AMERICAN ENTITLED "FOCUS" THAT ZONED IN ON SOURCES OF HELP AND SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DRUG USE/ABUSE. EVERY STUDENT IN GRADES 7-12 AND 14,000 DAILY AMERICAN SUBSCRIBERS RECEIVED THIS PUBLICATION. - MONTHLY DRUG-FREE COMMUNITIES BOARD MEETINGS WERE HELD AT THE DFC OFFICE UNTIL SEPTEMBER WHEN THAT OFFICE CLOSED. THESE MEETINGS CONTINUE TO BE ON THE 3RD THURSDAY OF EVERY MONTH AND ARE HELD IN THE CYS BOARD ROOM. - ATTENDED THE NATIONAL CADCA - COMMUNITY ANTI-DRUG COALITIONS OF AMERICA ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN WASHINGTON, D.C. - MET FACE TO FACE WITH CONGRESSMAN SHUSTER. SHARED SOMERSET COUNTY D AND A STATISTICS. - SUPPORTED BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB INITIATIVES INCLUDING A WEEK LONG SUMMER YOUTH CAMP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SOMERSET COUNTY NATIONAL GUARD UNIT AND THEIR ANNUAL STEAK AND BURGER DINNER. - SUPPORTED THE LIQUOR CONTROL BOARD'S STICKER SHOCK CAMPAIGN. - HIRED BDAP CERTIFIED TRAINER PHIL HARCHACK TO PRESENT CURRENT DRUGS OF ABUSE AND DRUG CONCEALMENT TRICKS TO ALL SOMERSET COUNTY GUIDANCE COUNSELORS. ON THAT DAY, EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT WAS PRESENTED WITH A DRUG ID KIT. WJAC-TV PROVIDED COVERAGE OF THIS DAYS TRAINING. - HOSTED A TRAINING ENTITLED SURVIVING PARENTHOOD IN THE 21ST CENTURY. THIS TRAINING WAS FREE FOR ANY SOMERSET COUNTY RESIDENT AND WAS HELD AT THE ALLEGANY COLLEGE OF MARYLAND CAMPUS. SUPPORTED THE NATIONAL RED RIBBON CAMPAIGN: - 17,000 RED RIBBONS WERE DISSEMINATED TO EVERY SCHOOL STUDENT IN THE COUNTY AND TO SUPPORTING BUSINESSES AND THEIR EMPLOYEES. - A FORMAL AWARDS RALLY WAS HELD AT THE SOMERSET COUNTY COURT HOUSE IN COURT ROOM ONE. THE EVENT RECEIVED COVERAGE FROM THE DAILY AMERICAN. THE ANNUAL MARYANN BOWMAN SPIRIT OF RED RIBBON WEEK AWARD WAS AGAIN PRESENTED. $900.00 OF DONATED CASH AWARDS WAS PRESENTED TO CONTEST WINNERS. - EVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE COUNTY PARTICIPATED IN RED RIBBON CONTESTS - BANNER, POSTER AND ESSAY. - WINNERS FROM ALL CONTESTS WERE RECOGNIZED IN A 16-PAGE NEWSPAPER INSERT IN THE DAILY AMERICAN. - A RED RIBBON WEEK PROCLAMATION WAS SIGNED BY ALL 3 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS. IT WAS FORMALLY PRESENTED AT THE RALLY. - PARTICIPATED IN A 30-MINUTE RADIO TALK SHOW ON WQZS-93.3 IN MEYERSDALE. - HELD THE FIRST ANNUAL RED RIBBON CORPORATE COMPETITION - A TRAVELING PLAQUE WAS AWARDED TO GANISTER STATION. - ADMINISTERED THE PENNSYLVANIA YOUTH SURVEY IN ALL 11 SCHOOL DISTRICTS PRIOR TO THE END OF THE GRANT. - DEVELOPED WITH SUPPORT FROM THE DAILY AMERICAN A DFC ANNUAL REPORT AND TEN YEAR SYNOPSIS. - ENDORSED PRESIDENT OBAMA'S PROCLAMATION NAMING DECEMBER 2011 AS NATIONAL IMPAIRED DRIVING PREVENTION MONTH. A PRESS CONFERENCE WAS HELD AT THE PA STATE POLICE BARRACKS, A RADIO TALK SHOW WAS DONE ON WQZS 93.3 AND PRINT COVERAGE WAS PROVIDED BY THE DAILY AMERICAN.
    TOBACCO INITIATIVES: - AS REQUIRED BY THE PA DOH, ONE ROUND OF TOBACCO COMPLIANCE CHECKS WERE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED (75 CKS). - TRAINED 47 YOUTH FROM 11 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE AMERICAN LUNG'S TEENS AGAINST TOBACCO USE (TATU) CURRICULUM. - SMOKELESS SATURDAY CLASSES WERE HELD 4 TIMES THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR AT SOMERSET HOSPITAL. THESE CLASSES ARE FOR YOUTH WHO WERE CAUGHT IN VIOLATION OF THE SCHOOLS TOBACCO USE POLICY. 19 YOUTH SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE PROGRAM. - SUPPORTED NATIONAL KICK BUTTS DAY AND GREAT AMERICAN SMOKE OUT EVENTS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SOMERSET HOSPITAL. - ATTENDED QUARTERLY SWPA TOBACCO COALITION MEETINGS AND SUPPORTED ALL SPONSORED EVENTS. - SUPPORTED THE NORTH STAR OUTDOOR EDUCATION DAY WITH TOBACCO EDUCATION PRESENTATIONS. - TOBACCO EDUCATION WAS TAUGHT ON SITE FOR PATIENTS AT TWIN LAKES CENTER ONCE A WEEK. - TAUGHT THE WHY ANIMALS DON'T SMOKE CURRICULUM AT SEVERAL PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTY. - AS REQUIRED BY PA DOH, ONE ROUND OF SYNAR CHECKS WAS DONE. THE FIRST 1,000 CARS RECEIVED TOBACCO AWARENESS BAGS. - TRAINED TATU TEENS REACHED 1,336 ELEMENTARY YOUTH WITH IN-CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS. - WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN THE ADOPTION OF NEW "NO TOBACCO" USE POLICIES AT TWO LOCATIONS - THE SOMERSET COUNTY TECHNOLOGY CENTER AND THE UNION STREET PLAYGROUND. BOTH PLACES TOOK PART IN THE YOUNG LUNGS AT PLAY INITIATIVE - A TOBACCO FREE PARKS AND PLAYGROUND PROGRAM SPONSORED BY THE PADOH. BOTH SITES WERE FEATURED IN PRINTED ARTICLES IN THE DAILY AMERICAN. SCHOLARSHIPS: THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, TWIN LAKES CENTER OFFERS FREE TREATMENT TO THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO PAY FOR THE COSTS. TYPICALLY, THE SINGLE COUNTY AUTHORITIES FUND ANY PATIENT WHO CANNOT AFFORD TREATMENT BUT IF THE FUNDING FALLS SHORT, WE CONTINUE TO KEEP THEM IN TREATMENT TO ENSURE THEY GET THE MOST OUT OF THEIR STAY.
