What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? Sexual addiction/brokenness education and mentoring. Parakaleo is a ministry of support, training and encouragement to individuals struggling with same sex attraction and other issues of sexual brokenness.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders Programs: Mentoring/Education Program - The most important accomplishment is helping men take control of their addictions, whether sexual, alcohol, co-dependency or drugs. There are over 60 men currently involved in the individual M/E Program. There are also meetings for the spouse to attend. MENTORING/EDUCATION - 80% In summary, approximately 80% of the Executive Director's time is devoted to mentoring and educating, one on one, mostly men but some women, who struggle with sexual additions. This 80% is divided in the following three ways. 10% - The Executive Director first meets with the struggler for an initial assessment, which typically lasts anywhere from 1.5 - 3 hours, depending on how much they are willing to open up. They are encouraged to freely share anything about their past and what they see as the root causes of their struggle, where they are in their struggle and where they want to go. This initial meeting may take place in the Executive Director's office or in a public place, whichever would be most comfortable for the struggler. 50% - After the initial assessment, 12 weekly or bi-weekly sessions are scheduled with the Executive Director, requiring approximately 2 hours per session. During the first six sessions the video series Lessons Learned...Insights for Redeeming the Sexual Generation by Sy Rogers is viewed and discussed. At the seventh session, the book entitled Coming Out Straight by Richard Cohen is reviewed/discussed. Other books from a library of over 50 titles are chosen, specific to each persons needs, to be read ahead and discussed at the remaining 5 sessions. These sessions are held in the office of the Executive Director. 20% - Phone sessions with the Executive Director are valuable in between the weekly or bi-weekly sessions for the purpose of accountability and encouragement, especially for those who live out of state. 29 Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders Programs: Group Sessions - The greatest accomplishment is seeing men be honest with themselves and share honestly with others in a safe environment - giving them empowerment over their addictions. There are over 60 men currently involved. In summary, the Group Sessions take approximately 20% of the Executive Director's time. This is divided in the following two ways. 10% - One evening per week, Tuesday, is set aside for group sessions for the purpose of support, growth and encouragement and to work on issues. Attendance is strongly encouraged. These sessions are scheduled from 7:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. but consistently go until 9:30 p.m. or 10:00 p.m. The Executive Director is present to give leadership and facilitate discussion. The weekly group meeting may be at the offices of the Executive Director, or in a private, reserved room in a public place. 10% - Often, Monday, Wednesday or Friday evenings are set aside for dinner with men one on one, small groups or couples(husband and wife) that struggle with same sex addiction or heterosexual addiction. This time includes dinner, group sharing, support, growth, encouragement and accountability. The Executive Director is present and gives leadership to the group sharing time. (60 Clients)
