General explanation attachment | Additional information for Part III line 4a Youth Development Our afterschool child care programs included over 400 children in school year and summer programs 23 of which were able to attend due to subsidies or financial assistance The program was a cooperative effort with the school district the United Center for Community Care and the YMCA and involved funding from the United Way YMCA Partners with Youth Campaign and the JCPenney Afterschool Fund Our youth sports programs involve over 1000 youth in character building activities Healthy Living The YMCA serves people of all abilities incomes and walks of life Youth as well as adults and seniors actively engage in classes to maintain a healthy lifestyle Furthermore members with physical disabilities are encouraged by a caring staff to continue to spend time in activities at the YMCA Seniors are active in specific classes and activities designed with their needs in mind Water exercise classes are taught on a daily basis and attract a number of members who could not otherwise participate in any physical fitness activities Social Responsibility Our continued commitment to youth in our community is demonstrated by our SPLASH water safety program It involves School Districts 50 51 and 52 and reaches over 1000 students YMCA Staff visit 11 elementary schools for the classroom portion of the curriculum These students experience actual pool time to learn these basic water safety lessons We serve 30 special education students from a local high school with a weekly fitness program In addition our YMCA participates in a national Military Outreach Initiative for families of deployed National Guard or Reserve Units We provided transportation for a new local mens crisis ministry which opened in November for the winter season |
