What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The purpose of the Louisiana Assisted Living Association is to advance the assisted living industry through provider education, respond with advocacy on regulatory and legislative issues related to senior living, enhance the quality of life for the consumers served by our member assisted living communities, and serve as a source of information regarding assisted living services in Louisiana.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Membership Growth: We welcomed two new providers to our LALA family in 2011, representing a total of 120 assisted living units. We also welcomed 14 new Industry Partner (vendor) members in 2011. Online Training Partnership: LALA entered into a partnership with the experienced training developers at Care and Compliance Group, LLC, for the purpose of expanding LALA's continuing education programs to include a variety of online courses, certification programs and other staff training and compliance resources. Care and Compliance Group has over 25 years of extensive industry knowledge that has benefited more than 100,000 administrators and assisted living professionals in acquiring continuing education and maintaining regulatory compliance. Through this new partnership, Louisiana's assisted living providers have access to more than 90 hours of online continuing education designed to help them stay in compliance with state regulations, while also encouraging care delivery that is centered on preserving seniors' dignity and quality of life. Advocacy on the Regulatory Front: LALA representatives met numerous times during the year with representatives of the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals (DHH) to discuss proposed revisions to the Adult Residential Care Provider regulations and licensing standards. We also arranged site visits to three of our member communities, to give the DHH staff a chance to see first-hand the variety of provider types, learn more about assisted living operations, and talk with providers, residents and families about concerns regarding assisted living services and regulatory requirements.Advocacy on the Legislative Front: During the 2011 Louisiana Legislative session, LALA representatives met with lawmakers and other relevant stakeholders to discuss issues related to criminal background check requirements for direct care workers in assisted living communities and nursing homes. The LALA Executive Director was appointed to serve on a legislative study group tasked with making recommendations to the legislature for future changes and enhancements to the criminal background check processes to ensure the safety of the elderly residents being served in long-term care settings. A Resource to Consumers and Providers: LALA provided educational and resource information regarding assisted living to consumers, the news media and other provider groups. We also provided assistance to our members as needed in resolving regulatory issues, survey deficiencies and resident complaints.Member Communication: The Association provided periodic email updates to members throughout the year on regulatory and legislative topics of interest, and other news of interest to assisted living providers.

29 Education: In 2011, LALA planned and successfully implemented two educational symposiums that were designed for assisted living owners and top-level administrators. 85 assisted living administrators and support staff attended our Spring Symposium on March 31, 2011 in Baton Rouge. This program focused on assisted living market trends, operations and financial management. Our Summer "Boot Camp" was held on August 25, 2011 in Lafayette with 70 attendees. The program content focused on sales and marketing. We partnered with the HomeCare Association of Louisiana to host a two-day educational conference on November 2-3, 2011 that was attended by 100 assisted living owners and administrators and 110 home care executives. The conference featured a vendor trade show representing 55 companies that offered products and services geared for assisted living and home care providers. The LALA Executive Director and a representative from the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals traveled around the state in April & May 2011 to conduct regional meetings with members to educate providers about using DHH's new emergency reporting system in preparation for the 2011 hurricane season. 154 assisted living providers attended these meetings held in Shreveport, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Sulphur.
