Form 990 Part III	4	Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation MSFB carries out its exempt function through education/promotion of agriculture, development and training of leaders, and development/implementation of policies which further agriculture and improve rural life.
Form 990 Part III	4a	Education/Promotion - The educational efforts for MSFB begin with the Ag in the Classroom program. This programs trains teachers about production agriculture and provides a way for those teachers to intergrate agriculture into their classrooms. A new project this year involves partnering with the newly opened Mississippi Childrens Museum. MFBF has provided funding and materials to emphasize agriculture in the exhibits of the museum, which had more than 200,000 visitors in its first year of operation.
Form 990 Part III	4a	The Safety Department of MSFB also reaches into the classrooms of Mississippi as they teach courses on ATV, tractor, and shop safety CPR and and anti-drunk driving course entitled Fatal Vision. The Safety Department also reaches the active producer members by teaching courses on the proper handling of chemicals, tractor safety, shop safety, and general workplace safety with a particular emphasis on the farm environment. In addition to these educaitonal efforts are promotional programs aimed at informing non-farmers about the role of agriculture in their daily life and agricultures contribution to their quality of life.
Form 990 Part III	4a	MSFB has trained several volunteers to make presentations at various civic organizations educating those individuals as to where their food and fiber come from and who produces them. An expanded effort is the Ag Image Campaign, a series of television, radio, and print pieces which show agricultures positive impact on everyones daily lives. Another method of promoting agriculture is the Farm Bureau Country magazine, a bi-monthly publication distributed to every member of MSFB. The magazine features articles on the various commodities produced in Mississippi and profiles of the farmers who produce them. The publication also conveys information about upcoming events, MSFB programs, and other items which highlight agriculture and rural life in Mississippi.
Form 990 Part III	4b	Volunteer Leaders - MSFB seeks to identify and train leaders in the organization. One program that does this is the Young Farmer and Rancher committee. This committee seeks out farmers age 18 to 35 to work in the MSFB organization as volunteers. The members of this committee receive training at the state and national level. Many of the volunteers surfaced by the Young Farmer program go on to become leaders at the local, state, and national levels of Farm Bureau. MSFB also provided training to the board members of the county Farm Bureaus and to the state-wide committees of MSFB. This training emphasizes the roles and responsibilities of people who choose to volunteer in an organization like Farm Bureau.
Form 990 Part III	4b	For the board members at the county and state level, this training includes great emphasis on their responsibility to oversee the activities of the county or state organization. In addition to leadership training, the active producers also receive training and information in their particular commodity areas. MSFB maintains specialists for each of the recognized commodities in Mississippi, who organize meetings to provide timely information to producers in those fields. These specialists also stay current on research developments and pass along new information as it becomes available.

Policy is not set at the national or state level in Farm Bureau, but begins with individual members meeting at the local county Farm Bureau. The process begins with a policy being proposed at a county Farm Bureau meeting. The policy is discussed among the members and voted upon. Any policy which is approved at the county level is forwarded to MSFB for consideration by the Resolutions Committee, made of members from all across the state. The policy is discussed and voted upon by this committee. Policies which are voted on favorably by the Resolutions Committee are then presented to the delegate body of MSFB when it meets at the annual meeting. Policies which are voted on favorably by the delegate body then become policy for MSFB.
