THE CEDAR COLLABORATES WITH MUSIC ORGANIZATIONS AND PRESENTING INSTITUTIONS IN THE REGION TO BOOK THE MOST RELEVANT, INTERESTING, AND EXCITING INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS. THE CEDAR STRIVES TO PROVIDE A DIVERSE AND INTERESTING MIX OF PROGRAMMING THAT REPRESENTS ALL AREAS OF THE WORLD AND PRESENTS BOTH TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY FORMS OF MUSIC. AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF THE GLOBAL ROOTS PROGRAM IS THE DAYTIME EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS. ARTISTS TALK ABOUT THEIR INSTRUMENTS, WHERE THEIR MUSIC COMES FROM, AND THEIR ARTISTIC PROCESS, AND GIVE ELECTRIFYING PERFORMANCES. EXAMPLES FROM PAST GLOBAL ROOTS FESTIVALS INCLUDE A DAY TIME PROGRAM WITH RED BARAAT WHO HAD EVERYONE UP AND DANCING BY THE END OF THE HOUR. OREKA TX PERFORMED THEIR PIECES IN FRONT OF CLIPS FROM THEIR NOMADAK TX FILM, IN WHICH THEY TRAVEL AND PLAY WITH MUSICIANS IN INDIA, SAMILAND (NORWAY), THE SAHARA, AND MONGOLIA. THE GLOBAL ROOTS PROGRAM IS MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH COLLABORATIONS WITH PARTNERS WHO ALLOW US TO ENGAGE K-12 AND COLLEGE YOUTH AND IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES BY: -BRINGING CLASSROOMS OF STUDENTS TO AFTERNOON EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS -INCORPORATING GLOBAL ROOTS PROGRAM EVENTS INTO CURRICULA -PROVIDING STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES WITH FREE TICKETS AND TRANSPORTATION TO PERFORMANCES -PROMOTING PROGRAM EVENTS TO TARGET AUDIENCES -ENGAGING COMMUNITIES WHOSE CULTURES ARE REFLECTED IN PROGRAM EVENTS ATTRACTING AN AUDIENCE FOR LARGELY UNKNOWN INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS IS A CHALLENGING TASK. HOWEVER, THE GLOBAL ROOTS PROGRAM IS MISSION-DRIVEN AND CAPTURES THE HEART OF THE CEDAR CULTURAL CENTER: EXPOSING GREAT INTERNATIONAL MUSIC TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE. NEW AND INCREASED CHARITABLE SUPPORT ALLOWS US TO PRESENT A PORTION OF THESE PROGRAMS FOR FREE AND TO EXPAND OUR MARKETING STRATEGY TO ENSURE MAXIMUM PARTICIPATION. WE REACH OUR AUDIENCE THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS MIZNA, RHUMBA MINNEAPOLIS, AND SOMALI AMERICAN ARTISTS ASSOCIATION. THE CARDINAL EVENT OF THE GLOBAL ROOTS PROGRAM IS THE FOUR-DAY ANNUAL GLOBAL ROOTS FESTIVAL. THE ONLY WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL IN MINNESOTA, THE GLOBAL ROOTS FESTIVAL CONSISTS OF CONCERT PERFORMANCES BY ACCLAIMED ARTISTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD WHO COMBINE CONTEMPORARY MUSIC WITH TRADITIONAL ROOTS FROM A VARIETY OF CULTURES. THE CEDAR PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO MAXIMIZE OUTREACH. WE CONNECT WITH IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES WHOSE CULTURES ARE REPRESENTED IN THE PROGRAMMING SCHEDULE AND INCREASE ACCESS BY ENGAGING UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES WHO DON'T TYPICALLY HAVE THESE OPPORTUNITIES.
