Identifier Return Reference Explanation
SchD_P01_S00_L01 Schedule D, Part I, Line 1 Donor advised funds comprise a significant portion of CJP's operations. Year-to-year changes in contributions to and grants from donor advised funds may cause CJP's contributions and programmatic expenditures to fluctuate. Comparative information is presented below: Fiscal 10: funds at year end 540; contributions $28,478,379; grants $44,814,558; fair Value at 6-30-10 $210,769,621. Fiscal 11: funds at year end 549; contributions $80,337,968; grants $71,903,438; Fair Value at 6-30-11 $243,406,714.
SchD_P05_S00_L04 Schedule D, Part V, Line 4 CJP's endowment funds support varied programs in the Jewish community of greater Boston including Jewish education, housing for disabled persons, refugee assistance, employment and CJP's long-term ability to provide such services in the future.
SchD_P10_S00_L02 Schedule D, Part X, Line 2 CJP is recognized s an organization exempt from income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. However, certain activities of exempt organizations, to the extent profitable may be subject to Federal and state taxation as unrelated business income. No provision for income taxes has been made in these financial statements, as management has identified no tax liability. CJP recognizes the financial statement impact of a tax position only after determining that the relevant tax authority would have a greater than 50 percent likelihood of sustaining the position following an audit. CJP's most significant position related to taxes is its charitable status and the resulting exemption from income taxes. CJP has applied this more-likely-than-not threshold to all tax positions for which the statute of limitation is open and determined that there were no material uncertain tax positions as of June 30, 2011 and 2010. It is CJP's policy to record estimated interest and penalties (if any) as part of management and general expense. Management believes that the CJP's income tax returns for fiscal years 2007 and prior are no longer subject to examination by taxing authorities.
SchD_P11_S00_L08 Schedule D, Part XI, Line 8 CJP's audited financial statements are prepared on a consolidated basis including supporting foundations. The audited financial statements include $140,782 net revenue from supporting foundations. They also include $67,319 of revenue from returned grants. CJP's audited financial statements exclude investment revenue belonging to Jewish Community Endowment Pool partners of $24,157,044. Thus the adjustment needed to reconcile the net revenue per the tax return to the audited financial statements is equal to unrealized gains on sales of $38,271,422 less net exclusions of ($23,948,943).
SchD_P12_S00_L02d Schedule D, Part XII, Line 2d Supporting Foundations generated $285,496 in revenue that is excluded from CJP's 990.
SchD_P12_S00_L04b Schedule D, Part XII, Line 4b Revenue on the 990 is reduced by event expenses of ($345,558) and by rental expenses of ($1,206,302). Revenue is increased by JCEP fees of $184,000.
SchD_P13_S00_L02d Schedule D, Part XIII, Line 2d Rental expenses of $1,206,302 and event expenses of $345,558 are netted against revenue on the 990 and hence are excluded from expenses. $144,714 of supporting foundation expenses are excluded as well. Total excluded: $1,696,574.
SchD_P13_S00_L04b Schedule D, Part XIII, Line 4b Expenses are increased by payroll costs of $184,000 covered by JCEP fees, by a grant of $555,000 to a consolidated supporting organization and by reflecting returned grants of $67,319 as revenue.

F990_P06_S0B_L12c Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c Annually questionnaires are sent to the Board of Directors, officers and key employees. The responses are returned to the CFO and are reviewed to identify if any respondent knows of a conflict of interest or of a family member at a firm with whom CJP does business. Any such conflicts are reported to the Chair of the Board. All transactions with firms associated with board members are made at arms length and with terms that are normal and customary for the industry. No transactions met the thresholds or requirements for reporting on Schedule L.
F990_P06_S0B_L15 Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 CJP has a Board committee on Organizational Development.
