Mission morehouse school of medicine is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities; increasing the diversity of the health professional and scientific workforce; and addressing primary health care needs through programs in education, research, and service, with emphasis on people of color and the underserved urban and rural populations in georgia and the nation.

overview established in 1975 to recruit and train minority and other individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, regardless of race or ethnicity, as physicians committed to the primary health care needs of the underserved, the school's academic stature and reputation have grown exponentially over the past three decades. Today, msm is among the nation's leading educators of primary care physicians. the majority of the more than 1,000 alumni have chosen to honor the msm mission by serving communities in inner citites and rural areas with more than 60 percent carrying forth this mission across the country including rural areas in georgia. msm commands national attention for its unique nurturing campus environment and outstanding training programs in medicine, biomedical research and public health. msm's strong emphasis on strengthening primary care, promoting prevention and early detection, and conducting research and translating discovery into community solutions and improved patient care that contributes to the elimination of health disparities, has made msm a unique institution among the nation's academic medical centers. msm's student enrollment for 2010-2011 is 333. msm awards the doctor of medicine, doctor of philosophy in biomedical sciences, master of public health, master of science in clinical research, master of science in biomedical research and master of science in biomedical technology degrees. msm's more than 200 full-time and part-time faculty members are noted in their fields for excellence in teaching, research and public policy and are known in the community for providing exceptional, culturally appropriate patient care. the majority of msm patient care and clinical training occurs at grady memorial hospital. in partnership with emory university school of medicine, msm and emory faculty and residents are responsible for more than three million patient visits a year. the expansion of msm's research enterprise particularly over the last decade has been fueled in large part by significant investments in our research infrastructure with funding from the national institutes of health (Nih), american heart association, health resources and services administration (hrsa), the georgia cancer coalition and others. all actual and potential conflicts of interest shall be disclosed by board members to the executive committee of the board of trustees through the annual disclosure form, or whenever conflict arises. the disinterested members of the msm board of trustees executive committee ("the committee") shall make a determination as to whether a conflict exists and what subsequent action (if any) is appropriate. the board retains the right to modify or reverse such determination and action, and retains the ultimate enforcement authority with respect to the interpretation and application of this policy as it applies to board members.
