THE MISSION OF FRIENDS IS TO PARTNER WITH, PROMOTE AND PRESERVE GEORGIA STATE PARKS & HISTORIC SITES. STATEWIDE, FRIENDS WORKS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE ECONOMIC AND INTRINSIC VALUES OF GEORGIA'S GREATEST TREASURES. WE WORK WITH STATE AND COMMUNITY LEADERS TO HELP MAKE SURE THAT OUR NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES ARE WELL PROTECTED, WELL MAINTAINED AND WELL PRESERVED FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES GOVERNING CHAPTERS

FRIENDS OF GEORGIA STATE PARKS & HISTORIC SITES, INC. HAS AN EXCLUSIVE MASTER AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF GEORGIA WHICH GIVES THE ORGANIZATION AUTHORITY FOR "FRIENDS-TYPE" ACTIVITIES, PROGRAMS AND SERVICES IN SUPPORT OF THE STATE PARK AND HISTORIC SITE SYSTEM, INCLUDING THE AUTHORITY TO ESTABLISH CHAPTERS. THE MASTER AGREEMENT SETS OUT BASIC PARAMETERS THAT ARE FOLLOWED IN MANAGING THE CHAPTERS. THE ORGANIZATION'S BYLAWS ALSO ADDRESS CHAPTERS. WHEN A GROUP WISHES TO FORM A CHAPTER TO SUPPORT A PARTICULAR SITE OR STATEWIDE PROGRAM, THEY MUST SUBMIT AN APPLICATION WHICH IS THEN REVIEWED AND APPROVED BY THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS. STANDARD BYLAWS HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED FOR THE CHAPTERS; THE CHAPTERS MAY PROPOSE AMENDMENTS TO THOSE BYLAWS AND THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD SOMETIMES APPROVES CHANGES. THE BOARD RETAINS ULTIMATE AUTHORITY. THERE IS A STANDARD OPERATING AGREEMENT WITH EACH CHAPTER, ALSO APPROVED BY THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD, WHICH FURTHER DEFINES THE RESPECTIVE AUTHORITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. IN ADDITION TO THE BYLAWS AND OPERATING AGREEMENT, THERE IS A CHAPTER HANDBOOK WHICH PROVIDES MORE GUIDANCE ON CHAPTER OPERATIONS.
