COMPUTER LITERACY: TWO COMPUTER LEARNING CENTERS (ONE AT THE MAIN CENTER AND ONE AT THE YOUTH CENTER) BRIDGE THE TECHNOLOGY GAP WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY AND PROVIDE TRAINING FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS, TEENS, AND COLLEGE PREPARATION CLASSES. CLASSES ARE OFFERED FOR ADULTS, SPECIAL SUMMER COMPUTER CAMP ACTIVITIES ARE CREATED FOR CHILDREN PARTICIPATING IN THE SUMMER CAMP WESLEY-RANKIN OFFERS INTERNET ACCESS FREE OF CHARGE TO THE COMMUNITY.EVENING TUTORINGELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL AGE STUDENTS WORK ONE ON ONE WITH VOLUNTEERS OR STAFF MEMBERS DURING THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM. OUR NEIGHBORHOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WORKS CLOSELY WITH THIS PROGRAM TO IDENTIFY STUDENTS THAT WILL BENEFIT FROM THE TUTORING. THERE IS A STRONG READING COMPONENT, AND STUDENTS ALSO RECEIVE HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE.BRIDGE TO COLLEGEWESLEY-RANKIN YOUTH ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND COLLEGE. MANY TIMES THEY ARE THE FIRST MEMBERS OF THEIR FAMILY TO RECEIVE A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A COLLEGE EDUCATION IS BEYOND THEIR DREAMS. "BRIDGE TO COLLEGE" HAS PROVIDED MENTORS, BOOKS, CLOTHING, AND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR OVER NINETY NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH SINCE 1994.WOMEN AND FAMILIES PROGRAMSSEWING CLASSES ARE OFFERED THROUGHOUT THE WEEK TO WOMEN IN THE COMMUNITY. DINNERS ARE CATERED AT THE CENTER AND IN THE DALLAS AREA TO HELP WOMEN IN THE COMMUNITY GENERATE INCOME. THE SEWING FACILITY IS OPEN EVERY DAY TO THE COMMUNITY. SENIORS CREATE LOVELY QUILTS, MAKE PURPLE HEART PILLOWS FOR THE LOCAL VA HOSPITAL, AND OTHER CIVIC PROJECTS AS REQUIRED.COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMSCOMMUNITY THANKSGIVING MEAL SERVED TO OVER 150 COMMUNITY MEMBERS ANNUALLY. THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NORTH TEXAS FOOD BANK, WESLEY-RANKIN DISTRIBUTES COMMODITY FOOD ITEMS THROUGH THE PEOPLE AND NUTRITION (PAN) PROGRAM AND FOOD FOR FAMILY FOOD VOUCHERS. DIA DE LA FAMILIA IS A MULTIPLE AGENCY UNDERTAKING FOR A DAY OF FUN AND ADVOCACY FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. LAS POSADAS IS ANOTHER MULTIPLE AGENCY UNDERTAKING WITH A CHRISTMAS PAGEANT PARADE.YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAININGTHROUGH ITS WEEKLY MEETING, THE GROUP DEVELOPS PLANS OF ACTION AND INITIATES THAT ACTION THROUGH SPEAKERS AND SPECIAL EVENTS AND CIVIC PROJECTS THAT INCLUDE PARK CLEAN UP AND BEAUTIFICATION, AND COLLEGE CAMPUS TOURS.CARE 4 KIDSCARE 4 KIDS WAS INITIATED IN 1999 AS A PARTNERSHIP PROJECT WITH BETHLEHEM CENTER,R METHODISM'S BREADBASKET, WESLEY-RANKIN, AND WILKINSON CENTER TO PROVIDE CLOTHING ARTICLES AND TOYS FOR CHILDREN IN URBAN DALLAS. CARE 4 KIDS AND FAMILIES PROVIDES FAMILIES AN OPPORTUNITY TO VOLUNTEER 100 HOURS OF SERVICE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY IN RETURN FOR BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND CHRISTMAS TOYS. PARENTS VOLUNTEER OVER 30,000 HOURS, RECEIVE ON THE JOB TRAINING SKILLS, AND RETAIN THEIR DIGNITY WITH THIS PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES ASSISTANCE THAT IS EARNED, NOT GIVEN. WESLEY-RANKIN CONTINUES TO REACH BEYOND ITS COMMUNITY BARRIERS BY OFFERING THIS PROGRAM TO CHRIST FOUNDRY AND WESTMORELAND HEIGHTS COMMUNITY CENTER IN 2009, OVER 700 CHILDREN AND 175 FAMILIES WERE SERVED.COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENTLEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS ARE CARRIED OUT YEAR-ROUND IN AN EFFORT TO HELP ADULTS IN THE COMMUNITY ENGAGE IN THE DECISION MAKING PROCESSES AT THE SCHOOL AND WITH THE CITY THAT AFFECT THEIR FAMILIES. ADDITIONAL WORK REVOLVES AROUND THE SPECIAL EVENTS THAT DEVELOP CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: COMMUNITY OUTREACH OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: GENERAL PROGRAM SUPPORTTHESE EXPENSES EFFECTIVELY SUPPORT ALL PROGRAMS, INCLUDING CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, YOUTH PROGRAMS, COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS AND SENIOR CITIZENS PROGRAMS.
