THE MISSION OF LAKE COUNTY YMCA IS TO PUT CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT BUILD HEALTHY SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY FOR ALL. NO ONE IS TURNED AWAY BECAUSE OF INABILITY TO PAY. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE BASED ON NEED. THE Y IS FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT, FOR HEALTHY LIVING AND FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. THE LAKE COUNTY YMCA IS ONE OF THE COUNTY'S LEADING NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS COMMITTED TO STRENGTHENING THE FOUNDATION OF OUR COMMUNITY. THE YMCA IS FORTUNATE TO HAVE OVER 1,400 VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE INVOLVED IN POLICY MAKING, PROVIDING PROGRAM LEADERSHIP, HELPING WITH GROUP PROJECTS AND IN SUPPORT ROLES. OVER 1,000 YOUTH AND TEENS PARTICIPATED IN TEEN FITNESS AND FITNESS CLASSES AND MORE THAN 12,000 ADULTS WERE INVOLVED IN ADULT-SPORTS OPEN RECREATION AND HUNDREDS MORE RECEIVED FITNESS TESTING AND COUNSELING. THOUSANDS MORE OF ALL AGES PARTICIPATED IN A BROAD SPECTRUM OF CLASSES AND ACTIVITIES FROM WEIGHT MANAGEMENT AND BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION PROGRAMS TO SIMPLY WALKING AND JOGGING, MANY OF THEM DAILY. YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS-YMCA PROGRAMS EMPHASIZE DEVELOPMENTAL SKILLS, HEALTH AND WELL-BEING, SAFETY, COOPERATION, SELF-ESTEEM AND RESPECT FOR OTHERS. ALMOST 8,000 ADULTS AND TEENS PLAYED BASKETBALL WHILE THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN WERE INVOLVED IN LIFE SKILLS INCLUDING SOCCER, ARCHERY, TENNIS, T-BALL, LACROSSE, WRESTLING, SWIMMING, CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING, VOLLEYBALL, RACQUETBALL, GOLF AND GYMNASTICS. PROGRAMMING AT THE YMCA AIMS TO DEVELOP CHARACTER AND IS VALUES-DRIVEN; WE EMPHASIZE HONEST, CARING, RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY. TEEN LEADERSHIP-IN YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS, OVER 200 TEENS PARTICIPATED IN LEADERS CLUB, LEADERS TRAINING SCHOOL AND COUNSELORS-IN-TRAINING AT CAMPS. SPECIAL POPULATIONS-THE YMCA OFFERS A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS AND SERVICES TO OVER 228 INDIVIDUALS OF ALL ABILITIES, INCLUDING THOSE WITH MENTAL AND/OR PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUES. INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS-THE YMCA IS A WORLDWIDE MOVEMENT WITH A GOAL OF PROMOTING HEALTH AND WELL-BEING AND WORLD MINDEDNESS.
