VALLEY OF THE SUN UNITED WAY (VSUW) HAS VOLUNTEERS THAT ASSIST THE ORGANIZATION IN A VARIETY OF CAPACITIES. VSUW'S VOLUNTEERS ARE A KEY COMPONENT TO THE SUCCESS OF THE ORGANIZATION. VSUW RELIES HEAVILY ON THE GUIDANCE OF KEY VOLUNTEERS TO APPROVE BUDGETS AND DISTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY. VSUW HAS ALMOST 10,000 VOLUNTEERS IN SEVERAL POSITIONS TO INCLUDE BOARD/POLICY MAKING, CAMPAIGN, COMMUNITY IMPACT, ENDOWMENT, PUBLIC POLICY, AND A VARIETY OF DIRECT SERVICES.

UNITED WAY AND OUR PARTNERS ARE FOCUSED ON JOB TRAINING AND WORKFORCE PREPARATION, FINANCIAL LITERACY EDUCATION, AND CONNECTING PEOPLE TO BENEFITS THEY MIGHT NOT OTHERWISE KNOW ABOUT. ENDING HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS ABOUT 82,000 HOUSEHOLDS IN MARICOPA COUNTY STRUGGLE TO PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE FOR THEIR FAMILIES EVERY DAY. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT ENDING HUNGER IS POSSIBLE. OUR RESULTS IN FY2012, CONTRIBUTIONS FROM DONORS HELPED VALLEY OF THE SUN UNITED WAY: - PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL COACHING AND INCENTIVES TO THE STAFF OF 775 CHILDCARE FACILITIES IN ARIZONA TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF CARE AND ENHANCE SCHOOL PREPAREDNESS FOR CHILDREN. - DISTRIBUTE MORE THAN 97,000 SCHOOL READINESS KITS IN MARICOPA COUNTY AND 101,000 STATEWIDE TO PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS OF YOUNG CHILDREN PROVIDING THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO PREPARE CHILDREN TO ENTER KINDERGARTEN READY TO LEARN AND SUCCEED. - PROVIDE MORE THAN 400,000 MENTOR HOURS TO MARICOPA COUNTY YOUTH. THESE PROGRAMS ENABLE MORE THAN 200,000 YOUTH TO ACCESS QUALITY AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS. - ASSIST 830 INDIVIDUALS IN ACCESSING STATE AND LOCAL BENEFITS OR TAX CREDITS THEY MAY NOT HAVE OTHERWISE RECEIVE, CLAIMING MORE THAN $1 MILLION IN TAX REFUNDS. - ASSIST 3,200 INDIVIDUALS IN OBTAINING EMPLOYMENT AND PROVIDE FINANCIAL EDUCATION TO NEARLY 1,400 ADULTS. - CREATE OVER 500 UNITS OF PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING TO END HOMELESSNESS FOR THOSE HARDEST TO SERVE. - HOST MORE THAN 44 PROJECT CONNECT EVENTS OVER THE PAST FOUR YEARS - SERVING MORE THAN 10,000 PEOPLE AND PROVIDING TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CONNECTIONS TO LIFE-CHANGING SERVICES. - CONNECT 15,000 FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN AND SENIORS TO RELIABLE FOOD SOURCES. - PROVIDE 17,000 CHILDREN AND YOUTH WITH MEALS DURING OR AFTER SCHOOL, OR IN THE SUMMER.
