Explanation:
This return was filed late because our new Finance Manager thought the filing deadline was November 30. When the extension was filed on November 29, we learned that we had missed the filing deadline. The Form 990 was then completed as quickly as possible. We do not have a history of non-compliance and have filed previous returns on a timely basis. We have revamped our internal control procedures to ensure that the error does not occur again. At no time were the interests of the government compromised, in any way, by our oversight. Please abate the penalty, as it will cause further financial strain on a small independent not-for-profit retirement home.
