KSBJ's mission is to be the Voice of Hope Connecting People to God, and we accomplish that mission through our on-air broadcasting, our mentoring program, our community outreach, and our prayer initiatives. As a listener-supported Christian station, we're able to concentrate on creating the kind of radio that encourages listeners not only to "sing along, but live along with us," and impact lives for Christ. KSBJ's core values reflect not only who we are and how we operate internally, but they also reflect the true heart of the ministry. KSBJ Core Values: We're Passionate for Christ... We are a people of prayer, faithfully devoted to being led by Christ. He is our passion and the source of our purpose. We will continually seek to follow (be filled by) Him and demonstrate His character in all we do. We Love People... We value authentic relationships and choose to see people through Jesus' eyes, embracing their uniqueness, loving them the way God loves us. We Serve Others... Our volunteers, board of directors (also volunteers), and staff hold each other to high standards and live out our core values daily. It takes an army of volunteers to support the ministry of KSBJ. We utilized approximately 2,700 volunteers giving over 10,300 hours of their time in various roles throughout the year. KSBJ Broadcasting: KSBJ broadcasting is taking the message of hope found in a relationship with Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. We broadcast to an audience of over 700,000 listeners on a weekly basis in Houston and the surrounding gulf coast region. Our web streaming (www.godlistens.org) and mobile apps provide a way for people to listen anywhere in the world on a computer, smart phone, or any device with internet access. In November 2010, we launched NGEN radio, a new youth oriented station, which is available on our HD2 channel and on the internet at www.ngenradio.com. We receive numerous calls, emails, Facebook posts, etc. from all over the world with people sharing how much encouragement and hope the ministry is giving them. Here is just one email we received recently: "I'm a Malaysian listening to your broadcast from Singapore where I study. It is great to pray along with you from half way across the world. It's great just to be able to hear a prayer on the radio; that never happens at home. You just announced the time and weather forecast for where you are. It's 5:24 pm here, it just rained and it's 70% humidity, 80.6 degrees Fahrenheit, but the difference doesn't seem to matter, I feel close to you and everyone else that is worshiping God at that moment of prayer; truly refreshing. Thank you for serving over the night. I hope to have many more moments of prayer on the radio." The world can seem a dark and hopeless place to the millions of lost and hurting people out there. The messages of hope that go out on the airwaves of KSBJ and NGEN are shining a light in those impossible to reach places and in the hearts of the hurting. Some of the on-air messaging this past year included: - We encouraged our listeners to participate in KSBJ's "Love That Sticks!" We spread God's love through post it notes all over the city! On a simple, little piece of paper, we asked our listeners to write a positive message on it, and put it in places for people to find! They left them in all sorts of places like at their work, the gym, all over their school, and even on their kid's back on the way to daycare! Our hope was to share God's love... because in the end... that's the "Love That Sticks!" - KSBJ helped show the reality of Easter by presenting music and memories with Max Lucado. Max talked about the different aspects of Easter from Palm Sunday, through the crucifixion, and resurrection. - Our on air staff also made sure that we were telling the true meaning of Christmas and using our songs to point our new listeners to the real reason we were celebrating Christmas. - NGEN recapped a staff member's mission trip to India and the heart of what God was doing in that country. Powering a World of Good through Christ and NGEN radio. - NGEN "My Life Story" in 60 Seconds tells how the artists we play came to know Christ as their loving Savior and how one simple act changed their lives forever. - We prayed for our Police Officers during National Police Week. We focused our prayers on the men and women who commit their lives to protecting our communities. We encouraged our listeners to wear blue wristbands or blue ribbons that week in support and remembrance and had wristbands available at various locations where we broadcasted afternoon traffic. KSBJ Education/Mentoring: Educational and mentoring programs are an integral part of KSBJ's ministry. KSBJ provides Biblically based educational programming designed to educate, train, encourage, and develop our listeners in areas of financial stewardship, spiritual growth and maturity, strengthening marriage and family relationships, health and wellness, issues impacting Christian worldviews, etc. The KSBJ bimonthly newsletter serves as an educational outreach to over 70,000 recipients. The educational content on the KSBJ and NGEN websites and social media channels have well over 3,000,000 views/hits each quarter from people in 177 different countries. This year, we expanded our mentoring program into a full-time outreach. In addition to continuing our mentoring relationships with stations in Nigeria and Guatemala, this year we've added a station in Georgia and in Bratislava, Slovakia. KSBJ is prayerfully considering mentoring relationships with several more Christian music radio stations and ministries both domestically and internationally. As the Voice of Hope, KSBJ raises awareness, rallies support, and connects people with local ministries and charitable organizations. Here are a few highlights from the past year: - KSBJ teamed up with Greater Houston area YMCAs and KTRK-ABC13 for Houston's largest school supply drive, Operation Backpack. Over 31,000 backpacks and school supplies were collected! Donations will be distributed to children in need within 31 participating school districts. - KSBJ was the "Official Volunteer Media Sponsor" for the Houston Children's Festival in downtown Houston. We recruited hundreds of volunteers who walked around in our brightly colored shirts giving their time and helping others throughout the weekend. The HCF has now raised over $4.2 million for Child Advocates. - We encouraged our listeners to get involved to help re-stock the shelves of Houston's Food Bank through Souper Bowl of Caring. The mission of SBOC is to utilize Super Bowl weekend to mobilize youth to fight hunger and poverty in their local communities. The overall results were amazing and our listeners helped to raise over $2,000,000 in food items for this year's campaign! - KSBJ partnered with the Eagle's Watch Foundation to help military families in need through "March For Our Military." We asked our listeners to donate gift cards of any amount that EWF would later distribute to troops and their families in need. The total of gift cards collected was over $42,000. - KSBJ & Living Water International teamed up for the Houston Marathon. Living Water was one of the 2010 - 2011 Run for a Reason Charities. Our team of 150 helped raise over $80,000 for LWI which almost doubled the amount they raised last year. - KSBJ's Giving Tree was a blockbuster success this year! First launched over 13 years ago, KSBJ's Giving Tree connects families with needs to individuals and families who would like to help meet those needs by providing gifts and/or services directly to the "nominated" family. We are so grateful to all those who participated and helped to make the holidays brighter for 5,400 people throughout our city.
Program Description; continued		- NGEN radio encouraged listeners to do random acts of kindness and led the way with the Drive Thru Difference Event. NGEN and the band Luminate headed out to local drive-thru restaurants and paid for the car behind them. Listeners were invited to the same and then share their experience with NGEN. The event was a hit and listener testimonies poured in through email and facebook. - The KSBJ Team Hope cycling team participated in the BP MS150 Bike Ride and raised just over $62,000 helping the event reach its $17,000,000 goal. The funds raised fuel research aimed at treating and eventually curing Multiple Sclerosis, and they also provide crucial services for persons living with MS. KSBJ Prayer Initiatives: At KSBJ, we believe that God listens. to prayer, and we have many opportunities for you to be prayed for and for you to pray for others. It is our desire to cultivate an authentic community of Christ followers who are passionate about prayer and who want to grow deeper in their relationship with Christ. The KSBJ Prayer Station Outreach Initiative has had a tremendous impact on the community since its inception in May 2008. In this past year, the Prayer Stations have been prominent features at many citywide events and all across the Houston area, stationed at city parks, in business parking lots, in shopping centers, near schools, at YMCA's, etc. Here are a few ways our Prayer Stations have been used to touch lives for Christ: - KSBJ Prayer Stations were stationed at Houston's Run for the Fallen which is an annual, public event of community supporters who gather to walk and run in remembrance of service members killed in the Iraq and Afghan conflicts. - KSBJ teamed up with Houston's Ministers Against Crime during Holy Week to host Prayer Stations near the campus of several Houston ISD Schools. We participated in order to help Houston Area Ministers Against Crime achieve their goal which is to help combat the growing dropout rates among schools in this area and curtail gang activity through the power of united prayer. According to community leaders in the area the prayers are making a difference! - Hundreds of participants from 8 communities across Greater Houston met for a time of seeking God on behalf of their communities. The participants represented various ethnic groups and denominations, but on that day were united for this grassroots intercessory prayer walk. - Over 2500 gathered on the steps of Houston's City Hall for the National Day of Prayer. For those downtown pedestrians who could not attend City Hall's ceremony, KSBJ Prayer Stations were made available both inside the courtyard area of City Hall as well as along the outer parameters. It was a special time to join together for prayer and repentance on behalf of our nation. - A Prayer Station Expansion Pastors and Leaders meeting was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center. As a result of hosting this meeting, there are at least 15 additional ministries who are in the process of ordering Prayer Stations so that they too can make prayer available in public places. Prayer Stations are just one of the great prayer connections KSBJ provides. Because we believe so strongly in the power of prayer, we have made it a priority to have prayer volunteers available all day, every day. KSBJ continues to partner with Need Him Ministries and Global Media Outreach to ensure there are always volunteers available to pray with listeners. Over the past year, KSBJ has received over 40,000 prayer requests and rejoiced for over 13,000 people who dedicated their lives to Christ. Add their name to KSBJ's Salvation Wall and receive daily updates as others lift your loved ones in prayer for their salvation. Don't forget to pray for others while you are there. - Pray Down at High Noon: Join thousands across the greater Houston area at High Noon to pray the Lord's prayer. Invite your friends to tune into 89.3 KSBJ and witness the strength of collective prayer in Jesus' name. - Become a Prayer Volunteer: Have you experienced the power of prayer in your life?
