OUR MISSION IS TWOFOLD AS FOLLOWS: 1) TO PROVIDE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT BY EDUCATING, EMPOWERING, AND ADVOCATING FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT; AND 2) TO AFFECT SOCIAL CHANGE BY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS TO REALIZE AND PARTICIPATE IN THE COMMUNITY'S RESPONSIBILITY TO END DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE.
FIRST ACCOMPLISHMENT DESCRIPTION

TRUE NORTH SHELTER OUTCOMES: THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THE TRUE NORTH EMERGENCY SHELTER IS TO KEEP VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT SAFE BY PROVIDING A SECURE AND CONFIDENTIAL RESIDENCE FOR VICTIMS FLEEING DANGEROUS (AND SOMETIMES LETHAL) SITUATIONS AND ENSURE THAT EVERY VICTIM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR SEXUAL ASSAULT LEAVES OUR PROGRAM SAFER THAN WHEN HE/SHE ARRIVED. RESIDENT DESTINATIONS OFTEN SERVE AS ONE INDICATOR OF PROGRAM EFFECTIVENESS. IN 2011, 70.9% OF THOSE EXITING THE EMERGENCY SHELTER LEFT THE PROGRAM FOR SAFE, PERMANENT (OR EXTENDED TRANSITIONAL - 2+ YEARS) HOUSING. 12.7% MOVED TO SAFE, TEMPORARY LOCATIONS. 16.5% MOVED BACK INTO AN UNSAFE SITUATION. OF THOSE LEAVING THE PROGRAM AND COMPLETING EXIT SURVEYS, 87% REPORTED THEY KNEW MORE ABOUT COMMUNITY RESOURCES AFTER RECEIVING SERVICES; 91.3% KNEW MORE ABOUT THEIR OPTIONS; 87.5% KNEW MORE WAYS TO PLAN FOR THEIR SAFETY; 91.7% WERE MORE CONFIDENT; 95.8% WERE MORE HOPEFUL ABOUT THE FUTURE; AND 83.3% REPORTED THEIR CHILDREN NOW HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING AT HOME.
SECOND ACCOMPLISHMENT DESCRIPTION

PROGRAM (TLP) IS TO FOSTER SUCCESSFUL INDEPENDENT LIVING FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR SEXUAL ASSAULT. IN 2011, 10 FAMILIES OUT OF THE 10 PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM, EXITED THE PROGRAM DURING THE SAME YEAR. OF THESE, 50% SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE PROGRAM (HAVING BECOME FULLY INDEPENDENT AND/OR ABLE TO MAINTAIN SAFE HOMES FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR CHILDREN) AND AN ADDITIONAL 30% WERE PARTIALLY SUCCESSFUL (HAVING MADE SIGNIFICANT GAINS IN EMPLOYMENT, HOUSING, FAMILIAL RELATIONSHIPS, CONFLICT RESOLUTION SKILLS, ETC.). 88.89% MET OR MADE PROGRESS IN MEETING THEIR EMPLOYMENT GOALS, 90% MET OR MADE PROGRESS IN MEETING THEIR HOUSING GOALS, AND 77.8% MET OR MADE PROGRESS IN MEETING THEIR FAMILY GOALS.

NON-RESIDENTIAL SERVICES OUTCOMES: THE PRIMARY GOAL OF NON-RESIDENTIAL SERVICES IS TO EMPOWER VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR SEXUAL ASSAULT THROUGH EDUCATION AND SUPPORT. IN 2011, 88.5% OF INDIVIDUALS RESPONDING ON ADVOCACY SERVICES SURVEYS REPORTED THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED ALL THE HELP WITH UNDERSTANDING HOW AND WHY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HAPPENS THAT THEY WANTED; 92.9% OF REPORTED THAT THEY KNEW MORE ABOUT THEIR RIGHTS AND OPTIONS AFTER RECEIVING SERVICES; AND 89.7% OF INDIVIDUALS REPORTED THAT THEY FELT MORE CONFIDENT IN THEIR DECISION-MAKING AFTER RECEIVING SERVICES.
