Sponsored by Ascension Health, the nation's largest Catholic healthcare system, St.Vincent Health is one of the largest healthcare employers in the state. As part of St.Vincent Health, the St.Vincent Carmel vision is to deliver a continuum of holistic, high-quality health services and improve the lives and health of Indiana individuals and communities, with special attention to the poor and vulnerable. This is accomplished through strong partnerships with businesses, community organizations, local, state and federal government, physicians, St.Vincent Carmel associates and others. Community benefit is not the work of a single department or group within St.Vincent Carmel, but is part of the St.Vincent mission and cultural fabric. It is initiated and implemented at all levels of the organization, by each ministry, and in every community. | |
| Charity Care and Certain Other Community Benefits at Cost | Patient Services for Poor and Vulnerable Hospital and outpatient care is provided to patients that cannot pay for services, including hospitalizations, surgeries, prescription drugs, medical equipment and medical supplies. Reach Out and Read (ROR) is a program that promotes early childhood literacy. At St.Vincent Carmel, when a child is brought for a pediatric appointment, staff reads a new book to the child. To further engage the child in reading, the pediatrician comments to the child about the book and asks them about the story during the exam. By the end of the doctor's visit, parents are encouraged to read to their child and the new book is presented as a gift. Used books are kept on hand to offer to the siblings, so that all the children in the family have a book to read. Car Seat Program St.Vincent Carmel Hospital supports the Carmel Police Department program to provide car seat inspections by certified child passenger safety technicians. The technicians check the child restraints for damage/recalls, determine if the restraint fits the child correctly, educate parents on proper installation in the vehicle and answer any questions they may have.
