OUR MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN EXCITING INDOOR AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES FOR BOYS (AGES 7-14) AND YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN (AGES 14-20). THEY ARE UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF TRAINED ADULT VOLUNTEERS, WHO HELP THEM DEVELOP THE LIFE SKILLS THEY NEED TO BECOME FUTURE LEADERS AND ACTIVE CITIZENS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THESE SKILLS INCLUDE INTERDEPENDENCE, ETHICAL DECISION-MAKING, CONFLICT RESOLUTION, SELF-ESTEEM, LITERACY, VALUES, PERSONAL GROWTH, LEADERSHIP, SEXUAL RESPONSIBILITY, POSITIVE TEEN-ADULT RELATIONSHIPS, SCHOOL-TO-WORK SKILLS, EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS, CHARACTER EDUCATION, AND MANY MORE. Traditional Scouting -- Six programs providing age appropriate educational opportunities for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the reponsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. Tiger Cubs is a family- and home-centered program that encourages ethical decision-making skills for first-grade (or 7-year old) boys; emphasizes shared leadership, learning about the community, and family understanding. Cub Scouts is a family- and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for boys in the second through third grades (or who are 8, 9, and 10 years old); emphasizes character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Webelos Scouts is a family- and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for fourth and fifth grade (or 10 year old) boys; offers more advanced activities to prepare Webelos to become Boy Scouts. Boy Scouts is a program for boys 11 through 17 years old designed to achieve the aims of scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of adult Scoutmasters. Varsity Scouts is an active, exciting program for young men 14 through 17 built around five program fields of emphasis: advancement, high adventure, personal development, service, and special programs events. Venturing is a program for young women and men age 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through age 20 providing positive experiences through exciting and meaningful youth-run activities that help them pursue their special interests, grow by teaching others, and develop leadership skills. As of December 31, 2011, there were 37,047 youths in traditional Scouting.

Learning For Life -- Seven programs designed to support schools and community-based organizations in their efforts to prepare youths to successfully handle the complexities of contemporary society and to enhance their self-confidence, motivation, and self-esteem. The seven programs focus on character development and career education. Learning For Life programs help youths develop social and life skills, assist in character and career development and help youths formulate positive personal values. It prepares youths to make ethical decisions that will help them to achieve their full potential. As of December 31, 2011, there are 21,354 youths in Learning For Life.

DETERMINING COMPENSATION PART VI, 15B Compensation for all professional employees falls within guidelines established by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America. These guidelines are published annually. The National Council engages Towers Watson to evaluate the propriety of these guidelines using data for comparable positions. Compensation for the Scout Executive/CEO (top management official) is determined by the Compensation Committee of the Executive Board, advised in writing by the Region Director of the National Council, using these guidelines.
