TO BE AN EVOLVING RESOURCE FOR THE GROWING COMMUNITY OF IMMIGRANT NEWCOMERS TO INDIANAPOLIS; WITH A SPIRIT OF HELPFULNESS, THE CENTER WILL CONNECT THESE NEWCOMERS TO THE RESOURCES, SERVICES, AND OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED IN THE CITY TO ENABLE THEM TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ECONOMIC, CIVIC, SOCIAL, AND CULTURAL LIFE IN THE COMMUNITY.

THE IMMIGRANT WELCOME CENTER(IWC) IS RESPONDING TO CRUCIAL COMMUNITY NEEDS OF VULNERABLE IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE FAMILIES THROUGH ITS NATURAL HELPERS PROGRAM, A VITAL BRIDGE THAT CONNECTS NEWCOMERS TO SOCIAL SERVICES, ORGANIZATIONS, PLACES OF WORSHIP, AND AGENCIES THAT ASSIST WITH BASIC NEEDS. THE IWC TRAINS TRUSTED IMMIGRANT LEADERS TO BECOME RESOURCE CONNECTORS IN LOCAL IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES AND LINKS THEM WITH THE MYRIAD OF SOCIAL SERVICES. OUR VOLUNTEERS ALSO PROVIDE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT AND FASTER INTEGRATION OF THE FOREIGN-BORN BY SERVING AS MENTORS, THEREBY BUILDING THE SELF-SUFFICIENCY OF PEOPLE FACING SIGNIFICANT LANGUAGE AND CULTURAL BARRIERS TO ACCESSING CRITICAL NEEDS. THANKS TO THE HARD WORK FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF MANY PEOPLE WHO CARE DEEPLY ABOUT THE SUCCESSFUL INTEGRATION OF NEWCOMERS IN OUR CITY, THE IMMIGRANT WELCOME CENTER CONTINUED TO MAKE PROGRESS IN ITS MISSION TO CONNECT PEOPLE TO THE RESOURCES, SERVICES AND OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED IN THE CITY TO ENABLE THEM TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ECONOMIC, CIVIC, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL LIFE OF THE COMMUNITY. AMOUNG OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS: 1) PROVIDED SERVICES TO MORE THAN 1,300 VULNERABLE WOMEN, MEN AND CHILDREN WITH INFORMATION, REFERRAL, LANGUAGE TRANSLATION/INTERPRETATION, CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. 2) CULTIVATED MORE THAN 20 NEW COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS IN THE CRITICAL AREAS OF EMPLOYMENT, LEGAL AID, HEALTH SERVICES, EDUCATION, LAW ENFORCEMENT/CRIMINAL JUSTICE, GOVERNMENTAL SERVICES, AND FAITH-BASED RESOURCES. 3) ANNOUNCED A 1 MILLION ENDOWMENT FROM THE ESTATE OF SARA I. AND ALBERT G. REUBEN, FIRST- AND SECOND-GENERATION IMMIGRANTS, RESPECTIVELY, PROVIDING THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADD A FULL TIME PROGRAM DIRECTOR TO OUR STAFF. 4) TRAINED TWO NEW GROUPS OF NATURAL HELPERS, BRINGING OUR TOTAL TO 65 VOLUNTEERS REPRESENTING 36 COUNTRIES AND 37 LANGUAGES. 5) CONDUCTED FIVE IN-SERVICE TRAINING SESSIONS FOR NATURAL HELPERS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND COMMUNITY RESOURCES IN THE AREAS OF CHILD ABUSE, HUMAN TRAFFICKING, COMPASSION FATIGUE, AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND WOMEN'S HEALTH. 6) COLLABORATED WITH UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS FROM BUTLER UNIVERSITY ON SEVERAL PROJECTS, INCLUDING A NEW VIDEO AND REFUGEE OUTREACH DAY IN NORA. SEVERAL STUDENTS VOLUNTEERED UP TO 30 HOURS PER SEMESTER TO WORK WITH US ON PROJECTS TO BENEFIT LOCAL IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES AND TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS OF INTEGRATION. 7) COLLABORATED ON RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS WITH STUDENTS FROM IUPUI, UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS AND THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY. 8) SPONSORED OR CO-SPONSORED MORE THAN A DOZEN COMMUNITY EVENTS ON THE TOPIC OF IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES IN INDIANAPOLIS AND THE NATURALIZATION AND GREEN CARD PROCESS, AS WELL AS TWO IMMGIRANTION LAW SEMINARS. 9) HOSTED A RACE RELATIONS LEADERSHIP NETWORK "DIALOGUE-TO-CHANGE STUDY CIRCLE" TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE OF RACISM IN INDIANAPOLIS. 10) SPONSORED A REFUGEE OUTREACH DAY IN NORA TO MEET MIDDLE EASTERN AND ASIAN REFUGEES. 11) STRENGTHENED INTERNAL COMMITTE STRUCTURE, ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE, AND GOVERNANCE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES. 12) ADDED NEW COMMUNITY LEADERS AND TWO VETERAN NATURAL HELPERS TO OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS, INCLUDING JANET D.
