| Form 990-EZ, General Explanation.1 | Supplemental Disclosure: Relationship with Forward Communities | Forward Communities is a separate 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to educate citizens and provide community leadership on the benefits of social entrepreneurship and on the models, methods and best practices available for fostering an environment where social entrepreneurship can flourish. Through December 31, 2011, the program of Forward Communities operated under a fiscal sponsorship agreement with the SJF Institute. Effective January 1, 2012, the program was transferred to a nonprofit corporation, Forward Communities, which was incorporated in May of 2011 and received a determination of tax-exemption as a 501(c)(3) organization effective on that date. Two individuals out of ten who served on SJF Institute's Board of Directors in 2011 also served on the Board of Bull City Forward during that year. Therefore, no brother/sister relationship existed between Bull City Forward and SJF Institute during 2011. A brother/sister relationship will likely exist in 2012 between Bull City Forward and Forward Communities, since six of the seven Board members listed on Forward Communities' Form 1023 Application for Recognition of Exemption are also serving as directors or employees of Bull City Forward.During 2011, several contributions intended by donors to support the charitable mission of Forward Communities were received by Bull City Forward and deposited into our bank account. A liability was recorded to recognize the receipt of these contributions as an agency (pass-thru) transaction, and we ensured that the contributions intended for Forward Communities were spent in accordance with the charitable purpose intended by the donors. Although an agreement was executed for SJF Institute to serve as fiscal sponsor for the Forward Communities program, SJF outsourced the operations of the program to Bull City Forward. As of December 31, 2011, the total expenses related to the charitable mission of Forward Communities exceeded the contributions received to support the charitable mission of Forward Communities by $9,059. Therefore, the Form 990 for 2011 reflects $9,059 in accounts receivable due from Forward Communities. |
