What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The New Mexico Green Chamber of Commerce creates new opportunities for business by advocating on behalf of renewable energy, strengthening local economies, and seizing the green business advantage. Our members believe in investing in people, protecting our air, land and water, and creating long-term profits.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 During 2011 the New Mexico Green Chamber accomplishments included the following:We formed and expanded chapters of the New Mexico Green Chamber in Las Cruces, Albuquerque and Taos, New Mexico. The Green Chamber has established itself as a statewide voice advocating for local business, clean energy and triple bottom line practices. The advocacy and education of the Green Chamber in the 2011 legislative session helped defeat legislation that would damage the future of green jobs and small business. At the same time, the Green Chamber promoted and provided education on important legislation in the areas of clean energy and local procurement that will protect our local economies and move New Mexico forward as a renewable energy leader.Our local chapters put forth programming and events that supported the small, independent, and locally owned businesses in their areas. In addition, they helped to provide regional voices to statewide efforts to grow New Mexico's economy. Out total membership for 2011 totaled approximately 1,000 members.Our first conference was a great success with approximately 200 businesses participating. After consulting with dozens of solar, wind, bio fuels, and clean technology companies, we developed a "New Opportunities for Business" policy platform that lays out priorities for those industries. This policy platform can be found on our website at www.nmgreenchamber.com.During the fall of 2011, we issued a report on the economic benefits of our national monuments in southern New Mexico, and canvassed over 400 local businesses statewide to identify business leaders who support a clean energy future in New Mexico.Hosted a roundtable discussion with Nancy Sutley, Chair of the White House on Environmental Quality (CEQ) in Albuquerque.Hosted a business roundtable with U. S. Congressman Ben Ray Lujan in Santa Fe.Released a series of public lands reports looking at the importance of National Parks & Monuments to the New Mexico Economy. These can be found on our website at www.nmgreenchamber.com.Co-hosted with Sacred Power, a White House business roundtable with Administrator Martha Johnson of the US General Services Administration.Launched a new website with expanded directory listing options and the ability to promote green practices.
