| Form 990-EZ Part III | 28 | PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS - During 2011, ATEF completed and turned over to its grantor a final curriculum to educate commercial truck and bus drivers on how to avoid distractions that could lead to safety problems. Defeating Distracted Driving includes a 15 minute DVD, a trifold brochure/handout and model company policies governing the use of in-cab devices such as cell phones and electronic communications systems. Approximately 500 truck and bus drivers, along with trucking and bus company safety managers, viewed and evaluated the initial materials and provided feedback on how the materials could be improved. The curriculum is already being distributed in most states by state trucking associations and law enforcement organizations. |
| Form 990-EZ Part III | 28 | ATEF took research it developed on the movement of over-sized/over-weight loads, such as utility transformers, mining and manufacturing equipment, manufactured homes and other non-divisible loads, and began preparation of a research report in cooperation with the national Specialized Carriers Rigging Association SCRA. ATEF compiled reports from over two-dozen states, developed information for and wrote case studies of specific over-dimensional moves, and issued its first draft of the report in December 2011. The final research report is scheduled to be completed by June 2012 and will be used by SCRA and transportation planning entities as a template to assist states and local jurisdictions in their planning for the regulation of these large loads. |
| Form 990-EZ Part III | 28 | ATEF planned and staged 22 Share the Road safety events throughout the state, including presentations to high schools, safety fairs and other venues. The goal of the programs was to train participants on how to safely share the road with large trucks and buses. |
| Form 990-EZ Part III | 28 | ATEF Board of Directors finalized and launched the initial scholarship application process and awarding of five scholarships. ATEF contracted with Scholarship Management Services to help develop the applications, screen applicants, verify information and make final recommendations. Five dependents of trucking industry employees received 1000 scholarships. |
| Form 990-EZ Part III | 28 | ATEF established a new safety awards program to recognize companies and individuals who have contributed to improved truck safety in Arizona. Co-sponsor of the non-cash awards are the Arizona Department of Public Safety, J. J. Keller and Associates, and Transtar Insurance Brokers. |
