JANDERNOA ENTREPRENEURIAL MENTORING PROGRAM RECEIVED THEIR OWN 501C3 STATUS AND FUNDS FROM OUR FOUNDATION WERE TRANSFERRED IN JANUARY 2011. THE PROGRAM'S INTENT HAD ALWAYS BEEN TO CREATE THEIR OWN FOUNDATION BUT IT HAPPENED ONE YEAR EARLIER THAN SCHEDULED. GREATER TOGETHER PARTNERSHIP ALSO CREATED THEIR OWN ENTITY AND FUNDS WERE TRANSFERRED MARCH 2011 TO THE NEW PROGRAM. OUR FOUNDATION HAD ONLY INTENDED TO SUPPORT THE ORIGINAL SURVEY.

SILENT OBSERVER- THIS PROGRAM ENCOURAGES INDIVIDUALS TO REPORT CRIMES BY OFFERING CASH REWARDS. THIS PROGRAM ASSISTED POLICE IN SOLVING 206 CRIMES IN 2011. THESE CASES SPANNED THE ENTIRE KENT COUNTY COMMUNITY AND LED TO THE ARREST OF 175 INDIVIDUALS. EIGHTY FIVE OF THESE CASES TOOK PLACE ON SCHOOL CAMPUSES. SILENT OBSERVER'S FAST 50 PROGRAM IS IN 18 DIFFERENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN KENT COUNTY. THE PROGRAM SAW A 35% INCREASE IN WEB TIPS AND A 13% INCREASE IN TEXT TIPS IN 2011. ATHENA SCHOLARSHIP FUND- PROGRAM THAT CELEBRATES THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF AN INDIVIDUAL IN OUR COMMUNITY FOR THEIR PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS, MENTORING, AND EFFORTS TO HELP WOMEN REACH THEIR FULL LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL. ONE ASPECT OF THIS PROGRAM IS A SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMEN OVER 30 GOING TO SCHOOL TO OBTAIN A DEGREE. INDIVIDUALS MADE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SCHOLARSHIP THROUGH THE FOUNDATION. ALL FUNDS WERE AND WILL BE USED FOR THE SCHOLARSHIPS. DIVERSITY PROGRAM FUND- DONATIONS WERE RECEIVED FROM THE ALL SOULS CHURCH LOCATED IN GRAND RAPIDS TO SUPPORT SCHOLARSHIPS AND PURCHASE NEW MATERIALS FOR THE INSTITUTE FOR HEALING RACISM. THIS PROGRAM ALSO RECEIVED A GRANT FROM THE W.K. KELLOGG FOUNDATION TO CREATE A CLEAR AND COHESIVE IDENTITY THAT WILL POSITION THE INSTITUTE FOR HEALING RACISM PROGRAM TOWARDS SUSTAINED AWARENESS AND SUPPORT. THIS PROJECT SHOULD BE COMPLETED MID 2012. WE RECEIVED A GRANT FROM THE PEW CHARITABLE TRUST TO EDUCATE THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY AND ASK THEM TO DISCUSS WITH POLICY MAKERS THE ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF HOME VISITING AND OTHER EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS IN ORDER TO ENCOURAGE THE SUPPORT OF POLICY CHANGE. THIS GRANT DOES NOT ALLOW ANY LOBBYING AND SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT WE EDUCATE OUR MEMBERS WITH THE INTENT THAT THEY WILL INFLUENCE THEIR POLICY MAKERS ON THE ISSUES.

A DRAFT IS SENT ELECTRONICALLY TO BOARD MEMBERS FOR REVIEW. THE BOARD HAS ALREADY REVIEWED AND APPROVED THE AUDITED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS BEFORE THIS IS SENT. ALL REVIEWS TAKE PLACE BEFORE THE 990 IS FILED WITH THE IRS.
ENFORCEMENT OF CONFLICTS POLICY

THE FOUNDATION IS MONITORED BY THE GRAND RAPIDS AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, A RELATED ORGANIZATION. THE PROCESS IS AS FOLLOWS: ALL DIRECTORS AND OFFICERS SIGN A CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY YEARLY. THIS IS REVIEWED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE FOUNDATION. THE PRESIDENT OR BOARD CHAIR HAS THE POWER TO REMOVE ANY BOARD MEMBER FROM VOTING ON AN ISSUE WHERE THERE POSSIBLY COULD BE A CONFLICT OF INTEREST WITH THAT BOARD MEMBER AND THE PROPOSAL PRESENTED. GENERALLY WE HAVE SEEN BOARD MEMBERS REMOVE THEMSELVES FROM THE VOTING PROCESS VOLUNTARILY.
