PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE
FORM 990-EZ, PART III
WE ARE AN ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO BRINGING HOPE EACH YEAR TO APPROXIMATELY 1,000 CHILDREN LIVING IN THE GREATER AKRON AREA. WE ARE A COMMUNITY OF VOLUNTEERS WHOSE SOLE INTENT IS TO BRING HOPE AND JOY TO CHILDREN LIVING IN POVERTY WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON AND TO CONNECT THEM WITH OPPORTUNITIES THAT WILL ENRICH THEIR LIVES. WE RECOGNIZE THAT POVERTY EXISTS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY AND THAT THE HOLIDAY SEASON CAN BE A VERY STRESSFUL TIME. WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE IS THAT UNLIKE TYPICAL ADOPT A FAMILY PROGRAMS WHICH ONLY SELECT INDIVIDUAL FAMILIES, OUR MODEL ADOPTS ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOODS SO THAT EVERY CHILD LIVING IN THOSE NEIGHBORHOODS RECEIVES A HOLIDAY GIFT. NO CHILD IS LEFT OUT. AS A RESULT, A SENSE OF COMMUNITY IS CREATED AND CHILDREN ARE ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE TRANSPORTATION THAT BICYCLES PROVIDE. THIS ALLOWS THEM TO ATTEND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS, SPORTING EVENTS AND OTHER ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES. WE REVISIT THE NEIGHBORHOOD SERVED WITH AN EVENT MID-YEAR TO ENSURE SAFE BIKING HABITS ARE FORMED, TO TEACH BIKE MAINTENANCE, AND TO CONNECT THE CHILD AND FAMILY WITH NEIGHBORHOOD PROGRAMS FOR SAFETY/MAINTENENCE INSTRUCTION, EDUCATION, LEARNING AND PHYSICAL FITNESS PROGRAMS. IT IS OUR HOPE THAT LATER IN LIFE, THESE SAME CHILDREN GROW UP AND DECIDE TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH THEY WERE RAISED AND THAT WE ARE STARTING A CYCLE OF CARING AND GIVING THAT REPEATS ITSELF, GENERATION AFTER GENERATION. WE ARE DEDICATED TO BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITIES, WHETHER THAT IS A COMMUNITY OF VOLUNTEERS AND SUPPORTERS OR THE COMMUNITY THAT IS IMPACTED BY OUR PROGRAMS.
FIRST ACCOMPLISHMENT
FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28
WE BRING HOPE TO APPROXIMATELY 1,000 CHILDREN LIVING IN THE GREATER AKRON AREA EACH YEAR BY GIFTING A BIKE OR TRIKE AND OTHER GIFTS TO THEM DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON. THROUGH 2011 WE HAVE PURCHASED, BUILT AND DISTRIBUTED BETWEEN 5,000 - 6,000 BIKES, SERVING SIX DIFFERENT AKRON, OHIO AREA NEIGHBORHOODS. OUR PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN WHOSE NEEDS ARE NOT OTHERWISE BEING MET BY FOCUSING ON AN ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD. WE GIFT TO AN ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD OF UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN SO THAT AN ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD OF CHILDREN ALL SHARE THE JOY AT THE SAME TIME. NO CHILD FEELS LEFT OUT OR ASHAMED AS EVERYONE GETS A GIFT. CHILDREN DO NOT NEED TO KNOW ABOUT US OR FIND TRANSPORTATION. WE COME TO THEM PROVIDING BIKES, TRIKES AND OTHER GIFTS THAT WOULD OTHERWISE BE HARD TO TAKE HOME. WE SERVE ALL CHILDREN OF THE SELECTED NEIGHBORHOODS REGARDLESS OF RACE, CREED, COLOR, GENDER OR NATIONALITY. SUBSTANTIALLY ALL CONTRIBUTIONS AND DONATIONS GO SOLELY TO PURCHASE, BUILD AND DELIVER HIGH QUALITY BIKES, TRIKES, AND OTHER GIFTS. IN ADDITION, WE COMMUNICATE WITH OUR VOLUNTEER AND SUPPORT BASE THROUGH OUR E-NEWSLETTER. THE ORGANIZATION HAS BUILT A SOLID VOLUNTEER BASE WITH OVER 250 ACTIVE COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO SUPPORT THE ACTIVITIES OF THE ORGANZATION BY VOLUNTEERING AT BIKE BUILDS, GIVE AWAYS, AND RODEOS. IN 2011, THE ORGANIZATION STRENGTHENED THE "AND MORE" PART OF OUR MISSION TO CONNECT RECIPIENTS WITH OTHER SERVICES THAT WILL LEAD TO SAFETY, LEARNING, EXCERCISE AND ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES. THIS WILL INVOLVE COLLABORATION WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS INCLUDING AKRON CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, SAFE KIDS SUMMIT COUNTY, THE AKRON PUBLIC SCHOOLS, THE CITY OF AKRON AND THE AKRON POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS.
