Briefly describe the organization’s mission: The primary mission of CLUW is to unify all union women in a viable organization to determine common problems and concerns to develop action programs within the framework of our unions to deal effectively with our goals; to promote affirmative action in the workplace; strengthen the role of women in unions; organize the unorganized women; and to increase involvement of women in the political and legislative process.

Year 2011 was an exciting year for officers and members of CLUW. We continued to hold our Leadership Academy in conjunction with our National Executive Board Meetings. We held two NEB meetings in Atlanta GA. and Philadelphia, PA. A National Officers Council meeting was also held in Buena Vista, FL. We discussed some of our key subject matters, including legislative issues that impact women, green jobs, union collective bargaining agreements and how to use them to better address women's issues and concerns, available union jobs, family-friendly workplaces, and organizing union workplaces. We also exchanged information on how union sisters could help our unions on issues that they are currently facing.The information that we exchanged, voted on, and approved, was aimed at achieving our goals and objectives. Our CLUW chapters were provided information on our plans of action, and reported to us at each board meeting of their activities. CLUW continues to grow and gain support throughout the country.

Convention: Our National Convention was held in September in Buena Vista, FL. Some changes were made to our constitution reducing the number of NEB meeting each year by one in recognition of the tight economy.A multi-day educational conference to be held in the off year from the convention was established.Changes were also made to the constitution that now allows any CLUW member in good standing 45 days prior to the opening of the convention to be a voting delegate to the convention.We have continued our work on sharing information about women's health issues.

The Board has the authority delegated to it by the Constitution. Any changes to the Constitution must be approved at the Convention.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 7a Form 990, Part VI, Line 7a: How Members or Shareholders Elect Governing Body Each CLUW Chapter is allowed 1 convention delegate for each 5 members. They hold elections to determine who the delegates will be. The election of the National Officers Council is done by nomination and balloting by convention delegates at the bi-annual convention. The National Officers Council consistes of President, Executive Vice President, Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary and 16 Vice Presidents. These positions are open to all CLUW members and nominations are taken from the floor. The nominations are followed by a secret ballot. The National Officers Council is the governing body for issues that do not require the approval of the Convention and that come up in-between the sessions of the National Executive Board. The National Executive Board meets three times a year. It is the highest policy-making board of CLUW except when the Convention is in session. The National Executive Board is composed of the National Officers Council, State Vice-Presidents, Alternate State Vice-Presidents, Union Delegates, Chapter Presidents and Chapter Delegates. The governing structure is set out in the Constitution which can only be changed by the Convention.
