| FIRST ACCOMPLISHMENT DESCRIPTION | FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4A | BUILDING: EARLY THIS YEAR WE WERE ABLE TO COMPLETE OUR FUND-RAISING FOR OUR SECOND ORPHANAGE, AT SECUNDERABAD. THERE, THE GIRLS WERE ONCE HUDDLED TOGETHER, FOUR AND FIVE UNDER A SINGLE BLANKET, SLEEPING ON A HARD CONCRETE FLOOR, BUT SOON THEY WILL HAVE A NEW HOME, THE FIRST "GREEN-CERTIFIED" ORPHANAGE IN INDIA. THEN WE MOVED ONTO RAISING FUNDS AND AWARENESS TO BUILD OUR THIRD ORPHANAGE, IN MARADIYUR, AN IMPOVERISHED RURAL COMMUNITY THREE HOURS OUTSIDE BANGALORE. A VIRTUAL TOUR OF THIS NEW FACILITY IS AVAILABLE BY VISITING OUR WEBSITE, WWW.HOMESOFHOPEINDIA.ORG. IT WILL BE NOT ONLY AN ORPHANAGE, BUT A VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE, AND SCHOOL. THIS WILL COMPLETELY CHANGE THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS MORE CHILDRENAND THEIR FAMILIES. YOU CAN FOLLOW THE PROGRESS AT WWW.100STEPSTOHOME.COM AND, AT KOTTIYAM, WHERE 1,200 STUDENTS HAD NO PLACE TO ASSEMBLE AND THERE WAS NO PLACE FOR COMMUNITY MEETINGS AND EVENTS, A NEW PAVILION NOW PROVIDES SHELTER FROM THE SUN AND RAIN. EDUCATION: PROVIDED FUNDING FOR OUR SCHOOLS, COMPUTERS, AND TWO NEW LANGUAGE LABS - CRITICAL IN PROVIDING THE KIND OF QUALITY EDUCATION THAT WILL PREPARE OUR STUDENTS FOR REAL JOBS. BOUGHT A SCHOOL BUS SO CHILDREN DON'T HAVE TO WALK THE TREACHEROUS ROADS. THE TWO DIESEL GENERATORS PURCHASED ALLOW THE SCHOOL DAY TO GO ON, UNINTERRUPTED. BEFORE, THE NOTORIOUS POWER CUTS VIRTUALLY SHUT DOWN SUCH CRUCIAL CLASSES AS COMPUTER AND LANGUAGE LABS. WITH OUR LATEST SHIPMENT, OVER 200,000 BOOKS HAVE BEEN SENT TO INDIA, BOOKS THAT ENRICH THE SOUL AND VASTLY EXPAND BOTH TEACHERS' AND STUDENTS' HORIZONS. AND WE ALSO BELIEVE IN BUILDING TEAM SPIRIT - THAT'S WHY TWO NEW MARCHING BANDS WERE FUNDED LAST YEAR AND NOW EACH OF OUR ORPHANAGES IS PROUD TO HAVE THEIR OWN. HEALTH AND WELLNESS: WATER IS CRITICAL AND SAFE DRINKING WATER ESSENTIALSO WE DRILLED WELLS AND FUNDED WATER PURIFIERS IN TWELVE OF OUR LOCATIONS. WHERE THERE WAS PRONOUNCED PROTEIN DEFICIENCY AMONG OUR GIRLS, THEY ARE NOW HEALTHY BECAUSE OF THE COWS AND WATER BUFFALOS WE PROVIDED. SOME OF OUR GIRLS HAD NEVER HAD A GLASS OF MILK IN THEIR LIVES. NOW, THEY HAVE MILK, YOGURT, AND BUTTER AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO GROW INTO HEALTHY YOUNG WOMEN. AS EACH OF OUR SITES IS NOT ONLY A SCHOOL AND/OR AN ORPHANAGE, BUT A COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT CENTRE AS WELL, WE REACHED OUT TO POOR VILLAGERS THROUGH OUR UNIQUE INITIATIVE WWW.LIGHTFIREWATER.COM AND PROVIDED REDUCED-SMOKE STOVES, WATER FILTERS AND SOLAR LIGHTS THAT WILL BE REPAID THROUGH NO INTEREST MICRO-LOANS. |
